About the Match
The hosts are already out of contention in IPL season 8 and can play with a free spirit when they go up against Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have 13 points and placed fourth on the table, on 13th May at Mohali. KXIP have nothing to lose and they would try their best to win the remaining matches while RCB are enthusiastic with their last two morale-boosting victories. They will continue with their winning strategy and secure a place in the playoffs; however, the hosts will put up a tough fight so as to win the game on Wednesday and give their fans something to cheer about.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB registered a comprehensive win against Mumbai Indians by 39 runs after posting a humungous total of 235. AB de Villiers slammed his second IPL century as he remained unbeaten on 133 from just 59 balls while Kohli stayed not-out on 82. Their knock turned out to be the highest score this season while Sreenath, Patel, Starc and Chahal all picked up wickets at regular intervals to defend the total. They had won their previous match against KXIP by a big margin of 138 runs wherein Gayle had gone berserk as he blasted 117 runs in just 57 balls. Splendid bowling performances by Starc and Sreenath, who picked up four wickets apiece, completed the demolition of the opposition. They will definitely try to repeat the performance again on Wednesday. Overall, RCB’s consistency and clarity in team composition has helped them stage a terrific comeback and they have become one of the strongest sides to beat any with match-winners like Gayle, AB de Villiers Kohli. RCB’s bowling has been bolstered with Sreenath and Chahal while Starc continues to lead the attack. It will be tough to beat them even for best in the business if they continue to play like they've been doing for past few games.
Kings XI Punjab
KXIP once again continued with their losing streak, this time against SHR by 5 runs after failing to chase down the massive total of 186. Miller played a flurry of scintillating shots as he blasted an unbeaten 89 off 44 but in the end they couldn’t get to the target. Earlier, Sandeep Sharma was the lone bowler who bowled a fine spell up front while Hendricks picked up 2 wickets; the rest struggled to keep a lid on the scoring rate. KXIP came close to upsetting KKR in the previous outing but at the end, they failed to reach the massive total of 184 and lost the game by 1 wicket. The team, on the back of Maxwell’s blazing innings had registered a good score while Anureet Singh displayed his wicket-taking abilities. Gurkeerat Singh picked up 2-17 but they couldn’t change the team’s fortunes. Overall, KXIP’s big names like Maxwell and Bailey have failed in unison while Sehwag, Murali, Vohra and Saha have not succeeded to put up a good show; however, on Wednesday they will look to play for pride and may win the remaining two matches before bowing out of the competition.
KXIP’s performance in all departments of the game has been below par and nothing seems to be working well for the team. On the other hand, RCB is peaking at the right time with extraordinary contributions from players who can turn the game single-handedly and this gives them a clear-cut edge to emerge as the winner
