About the Match
Kings XI Punjab once again chased down a huge total successfully to register their second win of the season; they now have 4 points from two matches and will go up against Hyderabad on Apr 22nd at Sharjah. Sunrisers Hyderbad are yet to open their account, having lost the only match they played so far against Rajasthan, and will be eager to win the match against Kings XI. While Mohali’s batting strength is second to none this season, Hyderabad’s bowling attack is equipped to throw up surprises and challenge the best of the best. It needs to be seen if Mohali continue on their winning momentum or will the Hyderabad Express succeed in stopping them; whichever team can keep its nerves together will emerge victorious.
Kings XI Punjab
It’s the first time in seven years that Kings XI Punjab has started the IPL league, winning back-to-back matches right from the start and they have proved to be the best batting side this season. First Maxwell and then David Miller; the Aussie power is truly in form and they were in full fire as they chased down 191 runs against Rajasthan with 8 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand. Maxwell’s brilliant 89 runs off 45 balls saw him smash away 8 fours and 6 sixes to give impetus while Pujara did well to rotate strike and support his partner; later Miller came in to finish in style with his unbeaten 51 off just 19 deliveries, that sealed the victory for the team. Earlier the bowling by Akshar Patel and Johnson was impressive as they contained the runs and took a wicket each; while Awana and Kartik also provided regular breaks, they gave away too many runs and will need to be more disciplined in the attack. The batting line-up is strong and players like Maxwell and Miller, who are in great form, will be confident going up against Hyderabad; the team is jubilant with its performance so far and they are a formidable force to reckon with at the moment.
It was a close match against Rajasthan Royals, which sadly ended in defeat for Hyderabad, thanks to Faulkner’s last-over heroics that saw the Royals home with 3 balls to spare. Though the bowlers did very well to make it tough for the opponents, there were just not enough runs on the table to defend. While Steyn and Mishra claimed 2 wickets each, Ishant and Kumar gave good support to trouble the top order and break partnerships. The tight bowling unit will be key to their success and they almost had this match to their side, provided the batsmen had fired well in the first innings. While Dhawan and Warner added 75 runs on board after Finch’s early dismissal, Sammy and the rest of the middle order couldn’t keep the scoreboard ticking. 133 runs never looked good enough but the bowlers kept the pressure on the opponents; however, they couldn’t stop Binny and Faulkner from getting the better of them. Mohali is a tough team and the players will have to come out all guns blazing here.
Kings XI is on a high right now with two consecutive wins and their superior batting performance has taken the cricketing world by storm; Hyderabad has the resources to stop the heroics of the Punjab batsmen but they need to strategize well. While the match could go either way, Kings XI Punjab clearly go in as favourites here.
