About the Match
Being at the bottom of the table, Kings XI Punjab will be eager to go back to winning ways with a better performance when they go up against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 27th April at Mohali. Both teams have 4 points from 6 matches played but the visitors are slightly better on the NRR, placing them on the fifth position currently. It will be a tough contest as both teams want to do well after suffering defeat in their last matches; with the competition getting stiffer by the day, both sides will come out all guns blazing to climb up the ladder and keep their chances alive.
Losing their last match against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad displayed some spots of weaknesses in their batting line-up during the chase for 157. The opening winning pair of Dhawan and Warner failed to click on this occasion although Dhawan posted a heroic 42 off 29 while Rahul and Bopara put up a 36-run stand for the 4th wicket but they were all out for 137 runs. The bowlers executed their plan brilliantly with Bhuvneshwar claiming 3-26 while Steyn and Praveen took 2 wickets each to restrict Mumbai to 157 but the batsmen failed to reach the target. Against KKR, they did well to win the match by 16 run (D/L) method wherein Warner and Dhawan posted a brilliant 130-run opening stand to take the total to 176, which was defended successfully by the bowlers. The team has the talent and experience on hand; they will need to give their best performances from here on to win matches and make it to the top four.
Kings XI Punjab
The team has not been consistent in its performance, especially with the bat; they cut a sorry figure against Super Kings as players like Bailey, Miller, Sehwag and Shaun Marsh went down without a fight and the entire batting line-up collapsed for 95 runs in reply to CSK’s 192 and lost the match by whopping 97 runs. Except for Murali Vijay, who scored 34 runs, the rest fell against the spin attack by Jadeja and Ashwin. The bowling lacked precision and they gave away too many runs with only Anureet Singh and Axar Patel being able to take a wicket each. In the previous match against the Royals, the same batting line-up had come up with an inspired performance to win the match in the tie-breaker; Shaun Marsh was the go-getter for the team as he posted a scintillating 65 off 53 deliveries and David Miller scoring 54. Axar Patel, Wriddhiman Saha and Johnson helped to take the team safely home but they need to come out all guns blazing in upcoming matches too; the bowling department also needs to be consistent in getting wickets and put the pressure on the opposition if they want to win more matches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab have had a similar run so far in the tournament, both winning two matches but having lost their previous games, they will be eager for a victory here. While Sunrisers have displayed better skills on the field and look stronger, Kings XI has the home advantage and might be better placed to emerge victorious on Monday.
