About the Match
Kings XI registered an emphatic victory over Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets after a stupendous show by the bowlers; this puts them in the 7th position with 8 points and they will be eager to repeat their winning performance when they meet Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mohali on 15th May. The visitors are placed at the top spot on the table thanks to a phenomenal performance in recent outings; they have 14 points from 11 matches and will leave no stone unturned to retain their position. It needs to be seen which team can keep a cool head above its shoulders and emerge victorious on Sunday.
Kings XI Punjab
Marcus Stoinis put up an excellent show by registering a figure of 4-15 and demolishing the Mumbai Indians’ batting line-up; Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Sharma took 2 wickets each to stifle the opponents to 124 runs, which the batsmen Murali Vijay and Saha chased down with their well-made half-centuries. This victory has definitely boosted their morale but it’s an uphill climb for the hosts to keep their hopes alive.
In the match against RCB, they came close to winning the match but the batsmen fell short by a painful margin of 1 run despite a brilliant show by Vijay, who scored 89 from 57 deliveries. Earlier, apart from bowlers Axar Patel and Cariappa, who took 3 wickets between them and also contained the opposition’s run-flow, the others gave away too many easy runs. Sandeep Sharma took 2 wickets but proved to be expensive.
They will need to fire from all cylinders in order to restrict the in-form batting line-up of SRH and the batsmen need to focus on building solid foundation whether batting first or during chase.
After registering a string of victories, they lost the match against Daredevils by 7 wickets after the bowlers failed to defend 146 runs; Henriques and Nehra took 3 wickets between them but others proved to be ineffective in containing the opposition from reaching the target with 11 balls to spare. Earlier, the top-order consisting of Dhawan, Warner and Williamson had set the foundation for a big total but the middle order collapsed like a pack of cards and they could muster only 146.
Previous outings saw SRH winning the contest against teams like RCB, Gujarat Lions, Supergiants and Mumbai Indians consecutively, which has put them in the first position; in the game against Supergiants, the bowlers put up a stunning effort defending a low total of 137 with ease. Nehra took 3-29 while Sran, Henriques and B Kumar took a wicket each to stifle the opponents and helped win the match by 4 runs in nick of time.
A solid batting line-up comprising of in-form and experienced players like Dhawan, Warner, Williamson, Yuvraj Singh and Henriques gives them the advantage over other teams; the bowling attack also has depth and variety with pace and spin. Overall, they have climbed up the ladder with sheer determination and hard-work and are well placed to continue reigning the table.
Although Kings XI has the home advantage and are motivated to repeat their winning performance in front of their fans, we feel that Sunrisers with a well-balanced team of batsmen and bowlers will emerge victorious on Sunday.
