About the Match
Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad meet each other at PCA Mohali on 11th May, 2013 as the hunt for the crown gets closer. The equation is pretty simple for Preity team; they need to win every game they play or they’ll be out. However, for Sunrisers Hyderabad, it’s not that simple to explain, but it is definitely simpler on the field than that of KXIP. Mohali track suits both bowling at batting with assistance for both seam and spin. A win here could seal the fate of the teams which renders this game as crucial as any other.
Kings XI Punjab:
The last game Kings XI Punjab played at this venue didn’t reap any fruits for them. They lost to Rajasthan Royals quite easily despite being in the game every time. In spite of tasting the loss, there were plenty of positives and plenty to learn from. Firstly, Adam Gilchrist came back to the form he once used to be in. Secondly, Shaun Marsh played another good knock which exhibits KXIP’s strength at the top of the order. Despite a solid foundation, they failed to pose a big enough total due to lackluster performance by middle order. David Miller’s red hot form didn’t help the team as he didn’t get enough balls to face due to the batting order he was batting at. Their bowling seems to be pretty good now with only exception being Manpreet Gony. Overall, Kings XI Punjab is an excellent side with a good top-order form and are difficult to beat at their home ground.
Sunrisers are coming off a massive loss to Chennai Super Kings where their bowlers were thrashed to all parts except Dale Steyn. Their batting was never their forte and their bowling was taken to the cleaners as well. Hyderabad Sunrisers are in a tricky position as far as points table is concerned. They are at fifth position with 14 points, and if things go against them, they can get knocked out very easily unless the win. They are fighting with Royal Challengers for the fourth spot and a win would tighten the competition. Their batting doesn’t seem to be in good form and their away record is not that good either. Sunrisers Hyderabad is a good side, but they need to perform after all.
Kings XI Punjab has to win every single game and wait for all permutations and combinations to fall into place in order to qualify. Hyderabad Sunrisers just need to win each and every game and they’d be through. Things are getting closer and a win here for KXIP would tighten up the things even more, but the question is can KXIP help themselves? It is a home game for them and they’ve performed reasonably well at PCA Mohali. They have their top order in excellent form with bowlers bowling well enough. Sunrisers, on the other hand seem to be over dependent on Steyn and Dhawan. I’d pick KXIP as more likelier to emerge victorious in this game.
