With Peshawar Zalmi beating Quetta Gladiators, the mid-table competition in the Pakistan Cricket League has grown more intense. As many as five teams are placed at almost simliar number of points as the difference between Multan Sultans - the team placed at the top of the table and Quetta Gladiators - the team placed at the fifth spot, is of just two points. The result of upcoming match between Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans is likely to provide some clarity as far as qualification scenarios are concerned. The match between the two sides is to be played on 6th March at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore.
Not long ago, Karachi Kings were languishing near the bottom of the points table and were staring at an early exit. However, a couple of consecutive wins have pulled them up on the ladder and they're now placed at the fourth spot, right behind Peshawar Zalmi. However, the Kings have played a couple of games less than most of the teams in the competition and they are looking all set to progress to the next round, unless they badly mess things up.
The Kings, too, are coming off a back to back winning streak. After chasing down a total of 183 runs against Islamabad United, they scripted a relatively easier chase in their previous match, beating Peshawar Zalmi by six wickets. Babar Azam, Alex Hales, and Chadwick Walton have been in fantastic form for them. Their bowling, as well, has been doing pretty well in the last few matches, and with Mohammad Amir amongst the wickets, it is not going to be easy to face the Kings.
All in all, the Karachi Kings have improved massively in their last few matches and the credit goes to their top-order batsmen and fast bowlers. Mohammad Amir finally seems to have found his rhythm back and was difficult to score against in the previous match. With the bat, Babar Azam is in fantastic touch and has scored in almost every match for the Kings. With their two main players in fine form, the Sultans cannot afford to be complacent against his potent Karachi side.
Sharjeel Khan, Babar Azam, AD Hales, MJ Mcclenaghan, CAK Walton, Iftikhar Ahmed, SI Wasim, Chris Jordan, Umer Khan, Aamer Yamin, Mohammad Amir.
Multan Sultans have played the least number of matches, five to be precise, and have the most number of points. With eight points to their name and a terrific net run-rate of 1.415, Multan Sultans have been the best team right from the beginning of the competition.
The Sultans last lost a match quite a while ago when they were defeated by Islamabad United. They have picked up pace since then and are currently on a three-match winning streak. Multan Sultans' batsmen are in fine form and that is evident from the kind of scores they posted in their previous two matches. Against Karachi Kings, the Sultans racked up a total of 186, which they then defended by significant ease. Against the Gladiators, the Sultans scored 199 and eventually won the match by 30 runs.
Along with a decent top-order, the Sultans have a terrific middle-order, which is arguably the best in the competition, with the likes of Rilee Rossouw, Khushdil Shah, and Shan Masood in fine form. Multan Sultans made a terrific comeback in their match against the Gladiators as Rilee Rossouw smashed a 43-ball hundred to take Sultans to 199 from 48 for 3.
In reply to their total, the Gladiators started off well with Jason Roy and Shane Watson scoring quickly, but they bounced back in the middle overs. Imran Tahir and Bilawal Bhatti were brilliant in the middle-overs as they picked up five wickets between them and gave away just 53 runs in their eight overs combined. Overall, the numbers speak for the Sultans and beating them is not going to be easy, even for Karachi Kings, who are coming on the back of a superb performance.
Zeeshan Ashraf, RS Bopara, Shan Masood, Moeen Ali, Rilee Rossouw, Khushdil Shah, S Tanvir, SMSK Afridi, Mohammad Ilyas, Mohammad Irfan, Imran Tahir.
Check out the Dream11 fantasy prediction for the Pakistan Super League contest between Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans
The two teams have done incredibly well in their recent matches and they both have good winning streaks each to back their form. Mohammad Amir's and Babar Azam's return to form is a huge positive for the Kings and Sultans have almost everyone contributing for them. Mutlan Sultans defeated Karachi Kings comfortably when the two teams met earlier in the tournament and would take confidence from that win. Considering the combination of the two sides and the recent results, we think betting on the Mutlan Sultan's win would be the way to go in this all-important fixture.
