These are early days into the Pakistan Super League and we have already seen some splendid cricket. With Multan Sultans winning their recent match, the points table is once again rendered open with almost all teams having an equal chance to get to the top. As many as three teams are stuck in the middle of the points table and they'll all will be looking to jump out and rise to the top.
The upcoming match, which is to be played between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings is going to be an important one for both sides have an opportunity to get to the top, at least on the basis of points. Sultans are coming off a splendid win whereas Karachi lost their previous match, but have looked in superb touch. Both sides have some fantastic and are likely to make up for a spectacular contest on Saturday.
The winners of the last edition, Karachi Kings, are one of the better-balanced sides of the tournament. They started their campaign with a scintillating win over Quetta Gladiators but failed to repeat the feat in their second match. Having said that, there wasn't a lot that the Kings did wrong in their loss against Islamabad United and, therefore, the Kings wouldn't be too worried yet. As it now stands, the Kings are placed second on the points table with two points but a superb net run-rate.
Against Islamabad United, the Kings fired all cylinders with bat and posted a challenging total of 196 batting first. So good was their batting that the Kings' middle-order didn't even have to work. Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam added 176 runs for the first wicket with Sharjeel scoring a century. However, Karachi Kings' bowling allowed Islamabad United with a few opening and the United utilized those to chase the total down.
While the Kings were decent in their defense, there was one over of Aamer Yamin, which cost them 29 runs. That over lot only reduced the deficit for Islamabad Unit but also took away the momentum from the Kings. Karachi Kings bounced back with important wickets, but a solid partnership between Ifthikar Ahmed and Hussain Talat sealed the deal for United. Overall, it would not be wrong to say that it was only over that took the game away from the Kings.
As we saw in the first two matches, Karachi is the only team that has all of the top-five players capable of hitting the ball out right from the word go. In addition to that, they have the class of Babar Azam who can hold one end if things do not go according to the plan. However, with the ball, the Kings aren't so fortunate. They have a wide array of options available, but there isn't a lot of experience available. They look over-reliant on Mohammad Nabi and Mohammad Amir, which was evident in the last match as well. If the rest of the bowlers can deliver for the Kings, they will be the team to defeat in the competition.
SI Wasim, Babar Azam, Sharjeel Khan, Colin Ingram, Joe Clarke, Mohammad Nabi, DT Christian, Aamer Yamin, Waqas Maqsood, Mohammad Amir, Arshad Iqbal.
Even though Multan Sultans did not get off to the kind of start they were hoping for, they wouldn't be too disappointed. They have shown enough fight in all of their three matches and it is only a matter of time before they come good. The acquisition of Mohammad Rizwan this edition seems to be a master-stroke as the Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman seems to be in phenomenal form. At the moment, Multan Sultans are fourth on the ladder with two points and a net run-rate of 0.204. However, they have played one extra game than their peers and cannot afford to lose another one here.
Surprisingly, Multan Sultans are the only side in the history of PSL not to have reached a Super League final yet. They put effort to build their side last year and it might very well pay some dividends this year. Given that PSL matches this year are going to be played repeatedly on the same surfaces, the Sultans have an advantage here. We have already seen some assistance for spinners present and the Sultans have three quality leg-spinners available at their disposal. Imran Tahir, Usman Qadir, and Shahid Afridi have done incredibly well over the year and in recent times.
At the top of the order, they have Chris Lynn, who looked in decent form in the Big Bash League. With the likes of Rilee Rossouw, James Vince, and Mohammad Rizwan available as well, Multan Sultans are packed well with power. However, they do not have much experience available in their lower middle-order and that could prove to be a distinguishing factor between the two sides.
As we saw them do in the previous match, the Sultans can keep even the best in the business batsmen in check. They defeated Lahore Qalandars incredibly easily and would want to take the confidence home and repeat the feat. They'd need their lower-order batsmen to do a job against a power-packed team like Karachi Kings. If the Sultans' bowlers are able to weave their magic once again, there's no reason why the Kings can't defeat Karachi Kings.
Mohammad Rizwan, Chris Lynn, James Vince, Sohaib Maqsood, Rilee Rossouw, Khushdil Shah, SMSK Afridi, Carlos Brathwaite, Sohail Khan, Usman Qadir, Shahnawaz Dhani.

The two teams are coming off contrasting results in their respective last matches and also have contrasting strengths. While the Kings are dependent more on their potent batting unit, the Sultans have a versatile bowling attack. Both sides have some exciting and talented players who all will be raring to go in this all-important match. Comparing the two sides on paper, we think that Karachi Kings have a little more balance available with the presence of batting all-rounders in their playing eleven. Besides, they have been in terrific form and their net run-rate speaks volumes about that. For those reasons, we would be placing our money on Karachi Kings and so should you.
