KKR vs KXIP Match Prediction - Mar 27, 2019

The Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab both won their first IPL 2019 match in very exciting encounters. KKR scored 54 runs in 16 deliveries to get to their win while Kings XI Punjab sparked a late collapse to win from a difficult position in their match. Both teams looked in good touch and will not need to tinker too much with their playing combination.

The IPL 2019 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab is going to be played at the Eden Gardens.

KKR vs KXIP Team Previews

Kolkata Knight Riders

The first match that KKR played gave a few clues as to what their strategy is going to be at the start of IPL 2019. The side picked Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Lockie Ferguson as its four overseas players and we think that is going to be the case for the next match as well.

Only Andre Russell was the player to have some impact in the opening match but the other three can never be counted out either. We rate Lockie Ferguson very highly and even though he may not have got too much reward for his efforts in the first match, he is a bowler worth persisting with.

Andre Russell was returning to the IPL after a long layoff and showed just what he can do immediately. He picked up two wickets in his three overs and then smashed 49 runs off 19 deliveries to win his side the match.

We just hope that KKR does not fall into the trap of ‘saving’ Andre Russell for the last few overs and preventing him from having an even bigger impact in the upcoming matches.

KKR is also going to be very happy with the form that Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill showed. Rana opened the batting and scored 68 of 47 balls while Gill smashed two sixes in the last over to win KKR the match.

With Uthappa, Karthik, and Narine also in the batting order, the KKR batting unit is very strong.

Andre Russell, Lockie Ferguson, Prasidh Krishna, and three world-class spinners make the KKR bowling very good too. We think Prasidh Krishna is going to get a few more matches but we are not too sure if he is going to have the same impact in IPL 2019 as he did last season.

Kings XI Punjab

If there was any shortage of attention around IPL 2019 or the Kings XI Punjab side then Ravi Ashwin has just taken care of it. His controversial run-out of Jos Buttler sparked off social media controversy around the cricketing world and also helped the Kings XI win the match just when Buttler seemed to be running away with it.

While all the attention might be limited to the run-out, the Kings XI side played some really good cricket in patches. Chris Gayle continued his return to an incredible run of form with 79 off 47 balls. It was a typical Gayle inning that was filled with dot balls for the first half and sixes in the second half.

We don’t think he is going to receive too many balls in his half against KKR, though. He is not someone we would depend on, even in this form.

Mayank Aggarwal looked good, Sarfaraz Khan made the most of his opportunity but not seeing Karun Nair in the side was a huge surprise. The highly rated Nicolas Pooran at number 6 and Mandeep Singh at number 7 gives the Kings XI a lot of options I the middle overs as well.

The real trouble for the Kings XI batting lineup is going to be consistency. Chris Gayle cannot be the only player scoring runs and winning matches for the side. Support from some of their senior batsmen is a minimum that the Kings XI can hope for, however, we feel a lot will depend on Lokesh Rahul.

After being one of the best IPL batsmen last season and even winning his place in the middle order in the Indian national side, Lokesh Rahul has not been as effective as he would have liked. If he can last the first two to three over then he could score a really big one as well.

The bowling strength for Kings XI Punjab is its spinners. Ravi Ashwin and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are very consistent in picking up wickets and keeping the runs low. They are going to be tested to the max in this encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders intimidating batting.

Mohammad Shami also bowled well in the first match but Sam Curran just seemed to be finding his length. More chances to this Kings XI bowling lineup is an absolute must and this is why we think that both the teams could be unchanged if there are no injury concerns.

Pitch and Conditions

The IPL 2019 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab is going to be played at the Eden Gardens. The crowd is extremely passionate in India and people flock in to watch but seeing the Eden Gardens filled to its brims is another memorable experience.

The weather forecast for match day is good and the chance of rain interrupting the match is very slight. The pitch at the Eden Gardens is excellent for batting. It has a good amount of pace and carry which keeps all the players interested and usually ends up being a high-scoring contest.

KKR vs KXIP Dream11 Prediction

We have put together a Dream 11 side for the KKR vs Kings XI match that we think has the potential to do quite well in the upcoming match. There are a number if value players available that are available for fewer points and thus allow for splurging on the top-players to balance things out.

Wicket-Keeper: Lokesh Rahul is an opening batsman and one of the most destructive players in the country when he gets going. He did not have the gloves in the previous match and is unlikely to have that opportunity this time either but his batting potential makes him a better pick than the other options.

Batsmen: We have chosen two out of the four openers in the match to try and give ourselves the best shot of getting the maximum points. Nitish Rana scored 68 in the previous match while Chris Lynn can never be counted out either. David Miller is also expected to be back for the match and will walk straight back into the playing eleven. Robin Uthappa got 35 in the first match and showed enough good form to convince us that a big score is around the corner.

All-rounders: Andre Russell is a must in the side because of his ability to get a bag full of points with both bat and ball. We recommend making him the captain of the Dream 11 side as well since he is active in the match at most times. Our other pick is Sam Curran. He could pick up a lot of wickets if the ball swings a little and can hit some big ones too.

Bowlers: Mohammad Shami and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are the two bowlers we that have picked from the Kings XI side while Kuldeep Yadav and Lockie Ferguson are the other two players to round out the side. We have tried to pick bowlers that are wicket-takers and that bowl during the end-stages of the match where wickets come in clumps. Lockie Ferguson is our recommendation to be the vice-captain of the team as well.
