42 runs in the powerplay for the loss of just one wicket is a good start but not great. Mumbai, however, has a lot of depth and power in its batting. The biggest threat at the death is going to be Russell.
Rohit Sharma has started well and he usually makes it count once he gets in

Mumbai Indians have remained true to form and lost their first match on the IPL. They now need to get serious and try to win against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the second match of the tournament.
KKR started with a very impressive win against the Sunrisers and is going to be full of confidence going into this match. While both teams have played their match at Chennai, the conditions seemed to have been quite different.
The first match was quite low-scoring and the pitch was quite difficult to bat on while the second match was very high-scoring. It will be quite interesting to see what we get in the third match at this venue.
Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2021 is going to be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on the 13th of April 2021.
Nitish Rana batted brilliantly for KKR in the opening match and has made the opening slot his own. We thought it was interesting that KKR opted not to play Sunil Narine or Lockie Ferguson even though Shakib Al Hasan is probably going to bat much too low-down the order to be effective.
It is something that Eoin Morgan did with the England team as he loves to have multi-role players in his team. At this point, it appears as if Shakib is going to be preferred to Narine at this point in time.
With Rana, GIll, Tripathi, Russell, Morgan, Karthik, Shakib, and even Cummins in the lineup, there really is no reason why KKR needs to worry about being bowled out or taking it slow at the top. The small collapse in the previous match was something that happens from time to time in T20 matches but the thought process was absolutely right.
The bowling attack for KKR was very good even though Pat Cummins came in for some stick during the death. Varun Chakravarthy and Shakib Al Hasan were fantastic while Andre Russell was brilliant during the death overs.
KKR is a strong team and is shaping up nicely for this match.
Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, RA Tripathi, Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, Shakib Al Hasan, Andre Russell, Pat Cummins, Harbhajan Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Prasidh Krishna.
Mumbai Indians somehow managed to lose their first match against RCB even though they had some very good opportunities to try and win. Quinton de Kock was not available for the first match and it is not yet certain whether he is going to be available for this next match.
Also, the fact that Chris Lynn made an impressive 49 in the first match is going to complicate things.
Marco Jensen also got a surprise debut in the first match but whether he continues to keep his place in the side is doubtful. MI has the option of playing Jimmy Neesham in his place and that will add some more hitting power to the lineup as well.
Adam Milne is also a part of the squad and he is a great option to have as that will strengthen the bowling attack a bit more. Mumbai’s great strength is in its middle-order. Surya Kumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, the Pandya brothers, Kieron Pollard are all supreme T20 players.
Mumbai Indians can actually afford to go harder a bit earlier in the inning as the depth in the batting is enormous.
Jasprit Bumrah had an excellent match against RCB and most of the others were quite good too but overall there seemed to be something missing in the MI bowling attack. Rahul Chahar was expected to be one of the real threats in Chennai but he had a terrible match.
A focus on picking early wickets, better execution at the death from Trent Boult, and an improvement in Rahul Chahar’s performance are things that MI will aim for in this match. We have seen MI start poorly only to recover solidly in the past as well.
The rumors of their demise are greatly exaggerated.
Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma, SA Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Marco Jansen, Rahul Chahar, JJ Bumrah, Trent Boult.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. The pitch seems to be playing surprisingly well and while we have not seen too much of dew just yet, even a little bit will help the chasing team more.

There is no threat of rain that is going to interrupt the match. The pitch for the second match looked a lot drier and seemed to have cracks but it held up superbly and ended up being a high-scoring match.
We are hoping for the same but the teams will want to load up their sides with spinners just in case the true Chennai wicket turns up!
A score of around 170 seems to be par for the venue right now.

We are going to bet on the Mumbai Indians to win in this match. The most successful IPL team had just one bad match and its fundamentals are solid. It should be able to bounce back strongly and learn from the mistakes that it made in the first match.
KKR is not a weak team at all and will push MI to the limit but we are not convinced they have the firepower to get past MI in this match. Also, the fact that Mi has 21 out of the 27 matches played against KKR has to be taken into account! Rohit Sharma loves playing against KKR and always seems to score.
Bet on Mumbai Indians to win
Suryakumar Yadav is in prime form with the bat. He also bats at number three and is very good against the spinners. 22.5 is not a big score for him to get.
The pitch in Chennai has been a bit of a head scratcher so far. The previous match was a high-coring one but this surface was the lowest scoring one in 2019. We think a match in which big hits are difficult to come could be in store.
