The first few matches of IPL 2020 have been thrilling! We have seen a Super-Over already, the value of experience, and a number of very improved players. There have been some let-downs as well but it is far too soon to write anyone off.
This next match is going to be played between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians. KKR is the last team to get started and will be playing its first match of the IPL. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, suffered a defeat at the hands of the Chennai Super Kings in their first match.
Both these teams are very strong and have some truly brilliant talent. Can KKR get off the blocks in a flash or will the Mumbai Indians learn from their mistakes in the first match?
KKR vs MI IPL 2020 is going to be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on the 23rd of September 2020.
Betway is running a campaign where it will offer Money Back as a Free Bet if your bet loses and last ball of the match is a boundary. We have always liked this type promotion, especially during IPL, which have number of boundaries being hit by either sides.
The Kolkata Knight Riders will have been watching all the matches so far and been learning. We have seen the pitches so far have a surprising amount of pace and bounce in them. The curators have left grass on the surface to prevent them from cracking up and to allow stroke-play.
This is something that KKR will enjoy.
Its strength is its batting. We expect to see Shubman Gill open for the duration of this IPL 2020 season. He is a phenomenal talent but has not really had the kind of brilliant year that will see him press for a place in the Indian team. He will have Sunil Narine at the top if he is fit. Narine missed the last few CPL games and maybe rested just as a precautionary measure.
KKR has the option of picking Tom Banton in place of Narine or perhaps shifting Rahul Tripathi up the order to add another overseas bowler. We would personally like to see Banton in there but KKR’s pace bowling is not the strongest.
Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, and Andre Russell form a very strong middle-order. Morgan has been in brilliant six-hitting form while Russell had a productive CPL as well.
We are not sure if Russell will actually bowl too much this season but he can be very dangerous if the surfaces continue to offer some bounce.
KKR’s bowling attack is a bit on the weaker side. Pat Cummins was very expensive in England, Kuldeep Yadav had his worst year in IPL 2019 and had to be dropped, while the Indian pace contingent is inexperienced.
Prasidh Krishna and maybe Shivam Mavi might get a game to start off with. This is where the addition of someone like Lockie Ferguson might be useful if Narine is not available.
Andre Russell, SP Narine, Dinesh Karthik, Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, NS Naik, Kuldeep Yadav, Shivam Mavi, Sandeep Warrier.
The Mumbai Indians continued their tradition of starting slow and lost a game to CSK that they really should have won. They will now face a tough examination against KKR as well.
Mumbai looked rusty in its previous match. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock looked good before throwing it away. The same can be said for Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya as well.
We are also not sure if Saurabh Tiwari is the best option at number four. He scored 42 off 31 deliveries but he is not the best at rotating the strike and seems to be a little suspect against the short-pitched bowling.
For some strange reason, Mumbai Indians continue to undervalue Kieron Pollard. They just do not send him up the order and allow him to bat as he can. His performance at number 6 is almost always curtailed due to a lack of available deliveries or batting partners.
The middle-order power in the Mumbai Indians is just as good as what KKR has, if not better.
Jasprit Bumrah was strangely out of touch in the previous match. He did not seem confident enough to try for his yorkers and ended up conceding a lot of runs. Trent Boult was easily the best bowler for Mumbai in the previous match. His ability to pick up early wickets is going to be crucial once more.
Mumbai picked James Pattinson for their opening match but we can easily see him being replaced by Mitchell McClenaghan or Nathan Coulter-Nile.
The strengths of the Mumbai Indians team are not going to change or disappear overnight. Their slow start and the current form of their leading players raises some concern, though.
Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, SA Yadav, SS Tiwary, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Trent Boult, James Pattinson, JJ Bumrah, Rahul Chahar.
The toss is going to be very important. We saw the pitch become better for batting in the second inning and the dew made things even more difficult for the bowlers. Wining the toss and batting second is going to be huge advantage.

We all came into the IPL 2020 thinking it was going to be low-scoring contests on dust-bowls ideal for spinners. Well, the curators have done their job very well and been able to provide us with beautiful batting pitches on surfaces with bounce and grass on them.
The squares have enough number of pitches that this trend could continue for the first few weeks of the IPL before the surfaces start slowing up.
Mumbai Indians played their first match on this sane ground The ball came on nicely to the bat and there was hardly any turn on offer. There was also a lot of dew that favors the side batting second.

The importance of the toss cannot be overstated in this contest. The dew factor is going to tilt things heavily in favor of the side chasing and so keep that in mind while you are placing your bets.
Overall, though, we think KKR has an excellent chance of pulling off a slight upset in this contest. It has the batting to be able to match the Mumbai Indians batting might. KKR’s bowling attack may benefit from some extra bounce on offer as well.
Bet on KKR to win.
We don't think any team in IPL 2020 has the six-hitting power that Mumbai has although KKR comes close. Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Suryakumar Yadav are all superb. Just hope that Andre Russell does not have one of his famous games.
Morgan is in the form of his life and backing him has been very profitable for us this season. he is sure to bat in the top-4 or 5 and will get a lot of deliveries to face. His six-hitting ability and the manner in which he attacks the spinners makes him a favorite to win this bet.
There is enough six-hitting power in this team to make this our best bet. The pitch was good in the opening match and is expected to be the same. We don't think it is going to be too much trouble for the match total of sixes to go 12 or more.
