KKR vs MI Match Prediction - Apr 28, 2019

The Kolkata Knight Riders lost their sixth consecutive match in IPL 2019 and have now run out of room for further mistakes. Kolkata has four matches remaining in this year’s group stages and must win every single one of them if it has to have any hope of making the IPL 2019 Playoffs.

This next match will be played against the Mumbai Indians who are on second place on the IPL 2019 League table. Mumbai Indians have been very good this year. They have won seven out of their eleven matches and are the only team to have beaten the Chennai Super Kings twice.

Another win in this match would come close to confirming Mumbai’s place in the playoffs and help it move to the first place in the league standings. Finishing top-2 is a big advantage for teams in the IPL and so Mumbai will be very eager to keep Kolkata’s losing streak intact.

The IPL 2019 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians is going to be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

KKR vs MI Team Previews

Kolkata Knight Riders

A season that began with so much promise has been reduced to a joke. The Kolkata Knight Riders have failed to be able to use their players to their best abilities and have lost six matches in a row. Their previous match was against the Rajasthan Royals and it looked like Dinesh Karthik had done enough to keep Kolkata ahead.

A terrible bowling performance by the fast bowlers meant and some poor fielding meant that the Kolkata Knight Rider lost a match that they should have won.

Now, up against one of the strongest sides in the competition, Kolkata Knight Riders have to lift their game in all aspects.

We expect Kolkata Knight Riders to make some changes to their bowling unit against the Mumbai Indians. Yarra Prithviraj has looked out of his depth in the two matches he has played and should be replaced with someone like Lockie Ferguson.

Carlos Braithwaite is also not a front-line batsman or bowler and must make way for the return of Robin Uthappa as well. The former Indian cricket has got a lot of criticism for batting slowly but he was consistently getting runs that Kolkata is missing now.

The decision to open with Shubman Gill is a good one and hopefully it will continue. He and Chris Lynn are a good opening combination. Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik, and the all-rounders are a good batting lineup but maybe lack one more genuine batsman.

Andre Russell was given a chance to bat more overs in the previous match failed for once. He seems to be struggling with minor injuries and that is a worrying sign for Kolkata as well as the West Indies looking ahead to the ICC World Cup 2019.

Kolkata Knight Riders Playing 11

Chris Lynn, SP Narine, RV Uthappa, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik, RK Singh, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Harry Gurney, Sandeep Warrier.

Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians are going to be filled with confidence coming into this match. Rohit Sharma scored his first fifty of the tournament and seemed to have regained his best form. Rohit Sharma is such an important player for Mumbai that the entire side seems to be elevated when he is scoring runs.

It is also interesting to note that Rohit Sharma has an excellent record while playing at the Eden Gardens. Add the weak and underperforming Kolkata bowling attack to the mix, and you could have a perfect situation for Rohit Sharma to take advantage of.

The addition of Evin Lewis to the batting lineup is also a good one. He is a hard hitter of the ball that has made international T20 hundreds. He is also another player that should be more effective on surfaces which have some bounce and pace.

With Quinto de Kock, Hardik Pandya, and Kieron Pollard also in the side, the Mumbai Indians have a very good batting side. The surface at the Eden gardens is pretty similar to what they encounter in Mumbai and that is also a big advantage.

The Mumbai Indians bowling has performed very well this year. Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Rahul Chahar have been quite effective at their jobs. They also have another place to add a batsman or bowler to the side as the balance demands.

We are really looking forward to seeing Jasprit Bumrah bowl on a pitch that has helped the fast bowlers nicely in the previous few matches. If he takes a few early wickets, that will be the game for Mumbai right there.

Pitch and Conditions

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2019 is going to be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The weather is expected to be clear and excellent for cricket. Humidity is going to be a bit high and that usually means we are going to see some dew as the night progresses.

The pitch at the Eden Gardens has been excellent for T20 cricket. There is pace, bounce, and carry in it which helps both the bowlers and the batsmen. The small dimensions of the ground also means that we get see plenty of boundaries being hit.

KKR vs MI Dream11 Prediction

Our Dream11 Team for this match is going to have the maximum possible batsmen to try and take advantage of what should be a high-scoring match.

Wicketkeeper: Dinesh Karthik and Quinton de Kock are both in form but we have picked the South African in our team. De Kock likes the fast-paced surfaces and also opens the batting. An easy choice to make in our opinion.

Batsmen: Rohit Sharma loves batting in Kolkata and has also just hit form. We have picked him, Evin Lewis, Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana, and Shubman Gill in our team. All of the batsmen are top-order players that play aggressively. They could all be very good point-scorers for the side on a good batting pitch.

All-rounders: We have picked Hardik Pandya and Andre Russell in the team as the two all-rounders. Sunil Narine was another tempting choice but he is probably not going to open the batting and that basically reduced him to a bowler. On a surface which does not take too much spin, we are not sure if there is value in picking him. Pandya and Russell could also play some very big shots on the small ground here.

Bowlers: We have picked Rahul Chahar, Prasidh Krishna, and Jasprit Bumrah as our three bowlers. Prasidh Krishna had a bad match against Rajasthan and could be a doubtful starter. His position should be re-confirmed at the start of the match.

Captain and vice-captain: We have decided to be a little adventurous with the captain and vice-captain picks by choosing Evin Lewis as captain and Quinton de Kock as vice-captain.
