After a good couple of games, Sunrisers Hyderabad will move to Eden Gardens to take on Kolkata Knight Riders on 14th April 2018. Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a heartbreaking loss to Chennai Super Kings in their away game. A win here for them will place them on par with Sunrisers Hyderabad as far as the number of wins in the competition is concerned and as they're playing in front of their home crowd, we expect them to come out all guns blazing.
KKR have a terrific record while playing at Eden Gardens and they continued to build on that when they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first match of the competition here. They lost to Chennai Super Kings in an away game and will be looking for a happy homecoming as they face Sunrisers here.
KKR had a tough last match where their bowlers failed to defend over 200 runs against Chennai Super Kings. Even in their first match, their bowlers failed to choke the run-rate when AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli were going at a rapid pace. The introduction of part-timer Nitish Rana plugged the run-flow as he picked AB and Kohli on two consecutive deliveries. Although their bowlers have leaked runs, they have top quality and experienced bowlers who can bounce back pretty sharply and single-handedly win games on their day.
KKR's batting is one of the strongest among all teams in this edition of Indian Premier League. Sunil Narine is a powerful striker of the ball and his partnership with Chris Lynn could be match-winning if the duo stays at the crease for few overs. Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, and Nitish Rana have all been amongst the runs and are excellent players of spin bowling. In the two games, bowling has been KKR's Achilles heel whereas their batting has made-up for it. Robin Uthappa hasn't fired yet but has looked good in the two short stays he's had in the two matches.
With excellent batting lineup and a decent bowling attack, KKR will be a tough team to beat in their own backyard.
SP Narine, Chris Lynn, RV Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, Andre Russell, Shivam Mavi, MG Johnson, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav.
Billy Stanlake's hoick over mid-wicket on the last ball of the previous game sent the crowd of over 30000 people into delirium as Sunrisers Hyderabad clinched their second win in two matches in a crunch game against Mumbai Indians.
Bowling first, SRH restricted Mumbai Indians to a modest total of a 147, thanks to a man of the match performance by Rashid Khan. The demolition of MI batting was started by Billy Stanlake as he rushed MI skipper and cramped him for room to get him caught at square leg. It was an excellent team effort thereafter with Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul, and Billy Stanlake picking up two wickets each. Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with a wicket albeit being a little costly.
Had it not been for Shikhar Dhawan's swashbuckling knock and Deepak Hooda's calmness, SRH wouldn't be celebrating their second win. Shikhar Dhawan took the advantage of field restrictions and scored crucial 45-runs knock at the top of the order. With wickets tumbling around him and required rate gradually creeping up, Hooda did not lose his cool and took SRH across the line almost single-handedly.
Until their game against Mumbai Indians, their middle-order had not been tested. Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan failed to capitalize on the opportunities and got out while playing needless shots. It's been only their bowlers and Shikhar Dhawan that has kept SRH afloat in their last two games. Their middle-order would have to contribute better if presented with an opportunity if they have to beat the Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
Shikhar Dhawan, WP Saha, KS Williamson, Manish Pandey, Shakib Al Hasan, Deepak Hooda, YK Pathan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Billy Stanlake, Siddarth Kaul.
Captains have preferred to win the toss and chase in this IPL so far and that is unlikely to change here as well.
Eden Gardens is a big ground but offers excellent value to the batsmen for their shots. Batting might get a little easier as the game progresses with dew likely to make an impact during the second half of the innings.
The Sunrisers have been brilliant with the ball twice in the competition, but playing at Eden Gardens against KKR could be a different ball-game altogether. The likes of Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, and Andre Russell have all been among runs and are excellent players of spin. It may well turn out to be a battle between Sunrisers' bowlers and Knight Riders' batsmen. The Knight Riders are playing at their home ground and are packed with power-hitters throughout their lineup. Back Kolkata Knight Riders to score their second win of the season in the upcoming match.
