We are almost at the halfway stage in the Momentum One Day Cup and things are beginning to take share beautifully. Knights managed to put their first points on the board, albeit with weather assisting them. Their match against Titans was washed out due to rain as the two teams had to settle for two points each. With half of the tournament already over, they need to get amongst the wins and do that quickly. Up next in the tournament, they are set to play Cape Cobras, who, too, are struggling to get wins under their belt. Both sides are languishing in the bottom half of the points table and will be desperate for a win. Considering the urgency of the situation, Knights and Cobras are both expected to come out all guns blazing and a cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.
While the Knights have been the worst side of the tournament so far, they certainly have an opportunity to turn it around with Cobras not looking in good form. In the four matches that the Knights have played so far, they failed to register a win in even one of those. The two points they have on the board are because of the rain, which washed out their match against the Titans.
While Knights have a decent unit, their batting just isn't firing. Their bowlers have done pretty well up until now, but their batsmen have been equally disappointing. In their three completed matches, their scores read 134, 164, and 115, the scores which speak volumes about how dismal their batting has been.
Knights main batsmen and their skipper P van Biljon is away on international duty with South Africa hosting Australia in a T20I series. With no other batsmen doing well for the Knights, his absence is likely to add to Knights' woes. All in all, the Knights are down at the moment, but they have a capable side and it might be too early to call them out. If their batsmen manage to deliver against the Cobras, Knights may have plenty of surprises in the store for us.

Cape Cobras have had a roller-coaster of a tournament so far. They have shown glimpses of brilliance in almost all of their matches, but closing the crunch situations has cost them at least four, if not more, points. They are the team with most number of matches to their name in the tournament so far, but have only eight points, and are consequently languishing at the fifth spot on the points table.
The Cobras aer coming off an embarrasing defeat at the hands of Dolphins, wherein their batsmen displayed irresponsible batting as they failed to chase an under-par total. More often than not, a total of 183 in the first innings favors the team chasing, but Cape Cobras somehow managed to mess up their chase against the Dolphins.
Their openers, Pieter Malan and Jannemann Malan both got starts, but none of them managed to anchor the Cobras' innings. Apart from Kyle Verreyne and A Mgijima, none of their batsmen could stay at the wicket as Cape Cobras succumbed to the pressure. Never ever were the Cobras out of the game as run-rate was never a problem. They were dismissed entirely with more than seven overs to spare as they lost the match by 26 runs. Mgijima top-scored for them with his unbeaten 69-run knock, but lack of support from other batsmen meant that his knock went in vain.
Earlier with the ball, the Cobras were impressive as they kept Dolphins to a total of just 183. It was a perfect team effort as all their bowlers contributed with a wicket each except George Linde, who picked up two. Linde and Kleinveldt were the picks of their bowling as they returned with the figures of 2 for 24 and 1 for 20 respectively in their ten overs each.

While the Cobras are one spot above the Knights in the points table, it can change very quickly with Knights have two more games up their sleeve as compared to the Cobras. However, considering how their batting has done in the tournament, it is going to be a difficult job. Going by the performance of their batsmen in their last match, the Cobras, too, seem to be struggling with the same problem. However, they have done better than Knights in the tournament on the whole and have a better-balanced side between the two, at least on paper. Considering that and the other reasons mentioned above, we think that the Cobras are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
