Placed at the bottom of the table, the Knights now have a bit of work to do to move into the top half of the ladder. In their opening game of the tournament, the Knights were handed a ruthless defeat by Dolphins. Up next in the tournament, the Knights will be up against Warriors, who, too are coming off a heavy defeat. Warriors were defeated by Cape Cobras and though they are just outside of the top-three slots, a loss here would send them crashing to the bottom of the table. The two teams are set to meet each other on Friday, 7th February at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein.
In a match that was an epitome of substandard batting by both the sides, Knights failed to chase down a subpar total of 209, which was set by Dolphins while batting first. The loss reminded Knights of their poor run in all the recent editions of Momentum One Day Cup and bouncing back from such a disheartening defeat could be difficult.
Knights batsmen struggled to come to terms on a slow and dry surface as Dolphins' spinners as well as seamers made merry. Barring PJ van Biljon and W Wakwetu, who scored 26 and 29 respectively, none of the Knights' batsmen looked comfortable in the middle. Eventually the Knights were completely dismantled for a total of 115 and as many as seven players failed to score even in double figures.
Earlier in the day, with the ball, the Knights' bowlers did a tremendous job. Just when the Dolphins were looking to post a towering total on the board, Tshepo Ntuli trapped Marques Ackerman in front and that triggered a collapse, from which the Dolphins took a while to recover. Shadley van Schalkwyk and Shaun von Berg were the picks of their bowlers and they returned with the respective figures of 31 for 2 and 42 for 2 in 10 and 9 overs respectively.
Overall, the Knights have a decent lineup on paper and they aren't going to lose any of their players to South Africa's international assignment. Considering the fact that they are playing at home and can utilize the conditions better, treating them lightly could prove to be very costly.
Raynard van Tonder, G Jacques Snyman, Keegan Petersen, AGS Gous, Obus Pienaar, Wandile Makwetu, Shaun von Berg, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Ottneil Baartman, Mbulelo Budaza, T Ntuli.
It was a strange sort of start that the Warriors got off to. There were plenty of positives that the Warriors would have to take from their outing against the Cobras, but their start was far from ideal. They are currently placed at the fourth spot on the ladder with a net run-rate of -0.633 and a win here should push them inside the top half of the points table.
It was a tale of two halves for the Warriors against the Cobras. First they pulled things back nicely to restrict Cobras to a total of 274 after Cobras laid a solid foundation to launch an ultimate assault. Glenton Stuurman was brilliant at the death and in the powerplay overs. He returned with the impressive numbers as he gave away just 39 runs in his 10 overs and picked up a wicket in the process.
In Cobras' reply, the Warriors got off to a decent start and looked all set to chase the target down with Rudy Second leading their run-chase. However, there was no support from other end as all of their batsmen perished after getting starts. Second, who scored 66 off 65 deliveries, was the pick of their batsmen as Warriors eventually lost the match by 31 runs.
Gihahn Cloete, Matthew Breetzke, Sinethemba Qeshile, RS Second, Yaseen Vallie, Marco Marais, Onke Nyaku, SSB Magala, Dyllan Matthews, Andrew Birch, Stefan Tait.

Both the sides are coming off losses in their previous respective matches and will be desperate to get back to the winning ways. The series between England and South Africa is not going to having any impact whatsoever on the combination of either of the two sides and both sides are expected to field their full-strength teams on Friday. Knights aren't known for anything spectacular in limited-over and would like to change that in the edition of the tournament. Warriors, on the other hand, have done well over the years in One Dayers and T20s. Comparing the two sides on paper, the Warriors are a better side, and even though they are playing away from home, they are firm favorites to emerge on top in this upcoming encounter.
