About the Match
The Vikings are in the third place with 2 points after suffering defeat at the hands of Riders in the last match by 9 wickets; they will take on Titans, who also have 2 points and are positioned 4th, on 12th November at Dhaka. The Titans also suffered a humiliating defeat against the Riders, after mustering only a measly 44 runs batting first; they will be eager to wipe out the shocking memory of being demolished by the Riders. Both teams can fight hard to make a comeback; whichever side can overcome the challenges on the field, will be better placed to win the match on Saturday.
The batting line-up put up a dismal performance against the Riders; except Anamul Haque and Shoaib Malik, the others failed to get the runs on board. The Vikings lost their foothold after both these batsmen were run-out and others like Jahurul Islam and Mohammad Nabi couldn’t get the team out of the woods, and they posted only 124 runs in the end. The bowlers also were out of sorts and couldn’t provide the required breakthroughs, finally losing the match by 9 wickets.
In the first match against Victorians, batsmen like Tamim Iqbal, Shoaib Malik, Jahurul Islam and Anamul Haque played good knocks to get 161 runs on board batting first. Specialist spinner Mohammad Nabi had claimed 4-24 to demolish the Victorians and with help from others like Abdur Razzak, Taskin Ahmed, TS Mills and Dwayne Smith, the Vikings won the game by 29 runs.
The bowlers can combine their pace and spin skills to outwit the Titans in the upcoming match; Nabi, Razzak and Shaoib Malik bring spin variations to the table while Taskin Ahmed, Mills and Smith can try to stifle the opposition. Overall, the Vikings can definitely bounce back with help of the bat.
The Titans were completely bamboozled by the Riders’ spin attack as the top and middle order was wiped out in steady pace; batsmen like Pooran, Abdul Mazid, Wessels and Mahmudullah were outwitted by Afridi and the others with only 44 runs on board in the end. The bowlers were under pressure and faced an impossible task to defend the lowly total; they lost the match by 9 wickets.
In the first match against Raj Kings, they had won a close contest by a narrow margin of 3 runs, after captain Mahmudullah pulled off a 3-wicket haul in the final over to successfully defend 133 runs. Pacemen Junaid Khan and Shafiul Islam took 6 wickets between them to stifle the Kings and they look to be in good form to continue with their wicket-taking abilities. Earlier, Wessels and Mahmudullah had contributed with 32 runs each while Pooran and Mazid tried to build a good foundation but in vain. On this occasion, the 133 runs they put up were just enough to win thanks to a splendid show of nerves by Mahmudullah.
The Titans batsmen will need to pull up their socks and back up their bowlers in a much better fashion if they want to win the upcoming game.
The contest could swing either way as both teams would be eager to win this match after suffering a loss in their previous outing; although Titans have a good mix of batsmen and bowlers, we feel that Vikings with their hard-hitting squad, are better placed to emerge victorious
