About the Match
The Titans still have a slim chance to make it to the playoffs if they defeat the Knights in the upcoming match on Sunday at Kimberley, provided the Warriors lose their match against the Cobras. With 18 points on board, Titans are just 2 points behind the Warriors and this match is a do-or-die one for them; the Knights on the other hand have already lost the race this season with just 14 points in their kitty but they will try to bow out of the competition with a win here. The contest is sure to be an interesting clash as both teams are equally matched and are well poised to dominate the other and emerge victorious.
Their previous game against the Dolphins was affected by rain and they got just 14 overs to chase the revised target of 127 runs, set by the opponents; the top order faltered and Rossouw, who had performed well so far, failed to get the big runs and build a partnership getting out in the 2nd over itself. It was a shocking collapse as the batsmen lost their nerves and lost the match by 40 runs (D/L) method. Choosing to field first, the bowling wasn’t sharp and they gave away too many runs in the middle. It was a dismal effort by the team and they lost their contention for the knockout stage. The upcoming match may not be of importance to them, but the Knights will definitely make it difficult for the Titans to get through.
While the bowling squad is filled with experts like Morne Morkel, Saeed Ajmal and Mbhalati who have done well for the team in earlier matches, they couldn’t succeed in defending the lowly total of 115 runs, set by their batsmen. Except for Ajmal, who took 2 wickets, the others failed to deliver under pressure; but it wasn’t their fault as the batting line-up could only muster 115 runs after being put to bat first. It was a disappointing effort by the openers and there were a lot of expectations from Davids and Faf du Plessis, but it was not their day to shine. Albie Morkel was once again fighting a lone battle as he posted 34 runs and there was good support by Behardien who scored 31 runs off 27 deliveries but subsequent to their dismissal, the lower order lost the plot. If they want to keep their hopes alive, the players need to pull off a win here and hope to receive a favour from the Cobras.
While the Knights are out of the race this season, they will eagerly try to ruin the chances of their opponents; however, the Titans will like to avenge their previous defeat against the Knights and inch closer to making it to the next stage. Though the match could go either way, with both sides having the necessary armor, the Titans look good enough to bounce back and win this contest.
