About the Match
The Titans will meet the Knights on Jan 19 at Centurion in the sixteenth match of the Ram Slam League 2014 that started at the beginning of this month. While the Titans are placed second on the points table with 12 points and NRR of +0.138, Knights are currently occupying the 5th position with just 4 points and NRR of -0.950. The two sides will be charged up to put up a tough fight here and the match will definitely be entertaining till the end.
It was a close win at Senwes Park against the Lions as the team won by 10 runs after posting a target of 159 runs for the opposition; the bowlers succeeded in the end to restrict the Lions from scoring the winning runs, though they struggled to break partnerships and at one stage it looked like the match would be lost. Earlier, the batsmen started the innings slowly and with early dismissal of Rudolph and Adams, the burden of steadying the innings was shared by Davids and Buuren, who posted a 72-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. While Buuren scored 55 runs off 30 balls, Davids scored 36 off 26 deliveries and the duo shared 5 sixes and 8 fours between them. Behardien also contributed well with 34 runs off 26 deliveries in the middle but the lower middle order succumbed to pressure and they reached a total of 158 runs. The team will be eager to maintain their lead over other teams by winning the upcoming match.
The team has only won one match till now and they will be enthusiastic to make a comeback into the series with a better performance here. The last match against the leaders, Cobras ended in a humiliating defeat for them as they were all out for 128 runs in reply to a target of 209 runs. While van der Wath and Ryan McLaren took 3 wickets between them, the bowlers could hardly make a dent on the opposition’s batting line-up and gave away too many runs. The chase started well for them with Hendricks and Rossouw showing confidence in their batting; however, Rossouw’s dismissal in the 2nd over itself left Hendricks fighting a lone battle. None of the other batsmen gave any support and though Hendricks posted and unbeaten 64 runs off 50 balls, the rest of the batting line-up collapsed without a fight. The defeat has definitely hurt their positivity and now the players need to rise above their weaknesses and give a better performance here tomorrow.
The league has just started and though there are many more matches to be played, this will be an opportunity for the teams to bolster their confidence and move ahead with more resolve. While the Titans have done very well till now, they will need to be more focused and will definitely put up a tough fight here. Though the Knights have good resources and the will power to succeed, the players need to collectively give good performances; the match could go either way but this looks like another win for the Titans.
