About the Match
The Knights and Warriors are set to clash once again on Jan 22nd at Kimberley as the league starts to see a heightened competitive spirit amongst the various teams; vying for the top spot, the Warriors are at the 2nd position with 14 points from six matches played so far in the tournament, whereas the Knights are way down in the 5th place with 8 points and will try to avenge their earlier defeat by 5 wickets against the same opponents at the beginning of the series. Both sides are equally matched and they will try to dominate the other in the quest of giving their campaign a major boost with a win here.
The Warriors came close to wins in both their previous matches only to tie them with the opponents in the end; while on Friday they couldn’t defend a total of 152 runs against the Dolphins, Sunday saw them drawing the match against the Lions, this time defending 156 runs. Smuts’ superb 73 off 54 deliveries didn’t go in vain as he and Ingram posted a 95-run partnership for the 2nd wicket but the rest of the team could muster a total of 156 runs only. Prince, Smuts and Ingram are in good form; they need to come out all guns blazing here to provide a good foundation. The bowlers must defend the totals and contain the opponents especially in the death overs; while on one-hand they must be appreciated that the matches weren’t lost, their efforts need to be coordinated towards a win. The players will surely come better prepared against the Knights and will pose a serious challenge to them.
The openers continued to struggle with the bat and will definitely need to step up and perform to give the innings a solid start; their previous win against the Titans by 7 wickets can be majorly attributed to Elgar and Biljon’s 120-run partnership wherein both players scored 60+ runs to take their team safely home while chasing 149 runs. The duo scored 9 boundaries and 5 sixes and both are in good form; the middle order also needs to stand up and face the challenge head-on against the Warriors’ bowling squad. Terblanche and Siboto exhibited sharpness in their bowling and will be key to the success of the team; McClaren hasn’t had much success and needs to bring out his best here. The entire unit needs to give an all-round performance if they want to win this match and keep their hopes alive for the knockout stage.
Both sides have very talented players who have proved their capabilities in previous matches; however, the team that holds its nerves together will emerge victorious here. While the Warriors clearly have the edge in terms of their recent performances, the Knights are looking to redeem themselves with a win here to try and make it to the next stage. The match could go either way but the Knights look more determined to win and prove a point against the Warriors here.
