We are just over a week into the Bangladesh Premier League and the competition is beginning to heat up. Chattogram Challengers' performance have been the highlight of the first week and we are likely to see a lot more fireworks in the upcoming encounters. Khulna Titans are set to play back to back games at the beginning of the week - one against Rangpur Rangers and the other one against Sylhet Thunders. While their match against Rangpur Rangers is in progress at the time of writing, they'll meet Thunder on 21st December at Chattogram. Sylhet Thunder haven't had the best of the starts to the tournament and they'll be looking to get back to the winning ways and consequently make a place in the top-four. Regardless of what has happened in the first week for both the sides, we expect a hard-fought encounter on Saturday.
Khulna Titans may have played only two matches in the tournament so far, but they have left the analysts and fans with plenty to talk about. They are currently at the second spot of the table after winning both their matches and have a terrific net run-rate of 1.765.
While they won their first match by a convincing margin, they had to fight hard against the Rajshahi Royals. In the first match, they defeated Chattogram Challengers, who have arguably been the best in the tournament, by an exceptional margin of eight wickets. Remarkably, their win came in with more than six overs to spare.
Against the Royals, it was all about individual brilliance of Mushfiqur Rahim, who single-handedly took Tigers away from the jaws of defeat to script a victory that looked improbably at one time. After their openers were dismissed early in the chase of 192, Rilee Rossouw and Mushfiqur Rahim combined to guide the Tigers to a comfortable position. Mushfiqur Rahim played a key role to take Tigers Home. He was dismissed in the last over, after scoring 96 off 51 deliveries, before Robbie Frylick sealed the game for the Tigers.
With a recent win over Rangpur Rangers, the Titans have three wins to their name in three matches. The Tigers have shown utter dominance in all the three matches and the momentum derived from that is going to be crucial not just in the upcoming match, but in all the matches to follow. They have an immaculately balanced team with power-hitters available right through the batting order and getting past them is not going to be easy for any side, let alone the Thunder.

Sylhet Thunder have arguably been the worst side in the tournament, at par with Rangpur Rangers, as they have lost all four of their opening games. They are languishing at the seven spot on the ladder and unless they get back to the winning ways quickly, they will be staring at an early exit from the tournament.
Although the Thunder do not have dearth of match-winners, their players certainly haven't been able to perform to their potential yet. The short break they've had before their upcoming contest should do them a world of good and it would be interesting to see how they fare against one of the top teams of the tournament.
So far, the Thunder have lost all their matches without putting up any fight whatsoever. In their most recent-encounter, the Thunder scored 129 batting first on a pretty good surface and while their bowlers did well to make a match out of it, the total was too little to defend by all standards. Their batting has shown inconsistency throughout and their scores that read 162, 91, 182, and 129 in their respective matches are an evidence of the inconsistency.
It is always hard to bounce back in a tournament that is as packed as BPL is and with the weight of four back to back losses pulling you back, it gets even harder. Same will be the case for Sylhet Thunder in the upcoming contest and they'd have to play out of their skins in order to get past in-form Tigers.

The two teams have had a contrasting run so far in the tournament and a result against the odds look unexpected. While the Tigers have three back to back wins behind them, Sylhet have failed to win any. Also, with the likes of Rilee Rossouw and Mushfiqur Rahim in superb form, the Tigers appear to be a better balanced side. Considering that as well as the other reasons mentioned above, we think that the Tigers are better placed to win the upcoming encounter and inch closer to the top of the ladder.
