About the Match
The first league match of the Champions League T20 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings will kick-start the main tournament on 17th Sep at Hyderabad with the culmination of the qualifiers on 16th that would decide which of the four teams progress into the next stage. KKR, the ruling champions of IPL, are a strong contingent and are prepared to take on the Super Kings, who are also established masters of this format of the game. It will be a cricketing treat for the fans who are eagerly waiting to catch the T20 action this season with teams participating from all over the world.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Morne Morkel will be missed due to injury and this makes him the 3rd overseas player to be unavailable for the team after Chris Lynn and Shakib Ali Hasan. Gautam Gambhir will lead the team consisting of established overseas players like Sunil Narine, Jacques Kallis, Ryan ten Doeschate, Andre Russells and Pat Cummins. He also will have the support of talented players like Robin Uthappa, Vinay Kumar, Yusuf Pathan, Manish Pandey and Piyush Chawla among others. The team has a well-balanced side of hard-hitting batsmen and specialist bowlers; they gelled well during the IPL and would be eager to give their best once again in the CLT20 series. The batsmen need to be cautious against spinners like Ashwin and Jadeja in the CSK team while the bowlers have to be disciplined in their bowling attack against hard-hitters like McCullum and Plessis. Gambhir will have his thinking cap on and will strategize well to plan for each of their opponents; the team needs to keep a positive attitude and come out all guns blazing to dominate right from the start.
Chennai Super Kings
CSK had been ousted from IPL during the playoffs this season and they will be motivated to do better in the champion’s league; Dhoni captains a side that boasts of players like Dwayne Bravo, the highly sought after all-rounder, established match winners like Brendon McCullum, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. The bowling squad consists of Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma, Ashish Nehra and Samuel Badree, who will be supported well by a tight fielding unit. The players have been performing well in various tournaments this year and Dhoni will inspire them to bring out their best and start on a winning note. With a good mix of young talent and experienced players, both from overseas as well as from the sub-continent, this is a tough team to beat. They have all the necessary fire-power to take on the might of the strongest of sides and the players will be eager to put their best foot forward for the cause of the team.
It will be a tough competition between these two strong teams with both trying to dominate the other right from the start; while Kolkata definitely has strong resources and have succeeded as a unit quite recently, the Super Kings look better placed and more determined to emerge victorious in this first match.
