About the Match
A thrilling win by Super Kings against Knight Riders puts them at the top of the table with 12 points; the two teams will face each other again at Kolkata on 30th April and this time the hosts will do their best to avenge the recent defeat and climb up the ladder. It needs to be seen if KKR can use the home advantage and better their standing on the table as presently they have 7 points and placed third. CSK gave an outstanding performance in defending the low total of 134 runs in the last game and the victory surely gives them the morale boost to continue with their winning momentum.
Chennai Super Kings
Dwayne Smith and McCullum were back in the stands with only 64 on the board; with Raina and Dhoni out by the 12th over, things looked messy for CSK and they could only muster 134 at the end. However, the bowlers led by Bravo who picked up 3-22 and Ashwin who claimed 2 for just 5 runs in two overs, the team looked well set to give a tough challenge. Nehra, Pandey and Sharma came through to restrict KKR in the run-flow and helped them win the match by 2 runs. Their previous win against Kings XI was more convincing as the batsmen posted a heroic 192 thanks to McCullum’s 66 off 44 and Dhoni’s blistering 41 in the end. The bowling was stupendous as Jadeja, Ashwin and Nehra combined to bowl out Kings XI for just 95; the team is gelling well as a unit and their determination to succeed has rightly put them on the top spot. Having won the recent contest against KKR, they will be pumped up about their chances to repeat the feat away from home too.
Kolkata Knight Riders
With just 134 runs as target, the KKR batsmen looked set to defeat CSK again but with wickets sliding on a slippery slope, they lost the match by a narrow margin of 2 runs. Robin Uthappa and Ryan ten Doeschate posted some good knocks but with Gambhir, Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav dismissed early on, the batting line-up failed to reach the target. The loss would surely have hurt their morale especially since the bowlers did a commendable job of restricting CSK to a paltry total. In their last match against Sunrisers too, the batsmen struggled and failed to chase 176 with only Uthappa and Pandey delivering some results; the bowlers couldn’t do much damage to the opponents while the batting line-up crumbled under pressure with the D/L method in place. If they can come out all guns blazing on Thursday, then this team can well be a threat to the teams in the forefront of the tournament. KKR is known to make comebacks and they will go into the next match against CSK with only redemption in mind.
With the competition getting stiffer, this match will be a crucial one for the hosts as they will need to move up the table to stay alive; however, with the bowling looking off-colour and the batsmen not looking confident enough, it surely looks like advantage CSK for the match on Thursday.
