About the Match
IPL is only getting exciting with Kolkata Knight Riders take on Kings XI Punjab at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, on May 4 in an IPL 9 fixture.
The Knight Riders currently stand second on the points table with 10 points in eight matches while the visitors, Kings XI sit at the end of the row with only four points.
Both clubs head into this game with respective wins. While KKR triumphed over the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab had beaten league leaders, Gujarat Lions in the previous fixture.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata has tasted back-to-back defeats before winning the last match in Bangalore. Lokesh Rahul and Virat Kohli had set it up nicely for the batsmen to come. Watson, Stuart Binny, and Sachin Baby made sure that RCB ended the innings with a flourish as they posted 185/7 on the board.
Gambhir’s squad had a few hiccups at the beginning of the chase as R. Uthappa, and Chris Lynn departed a little too early. Gautam Gambhir and Manish Pandey followed the duo back to the pavilion.
When it seemed like it was going to be a floundering for KKR, Yusuf Pathan and Andre Russell came to the rescue and turned on the heat with the bat. While Pathan was unbeaten on 60 runs off 29 deliveries, Andre amassed 39 runs in 24 balls before losing his wicket. Next came Suryakumar Yadav, who played a handful knock to see the Knight Riders home along with Pathan.
Kings XI Punjab
In the other game, Murali Vijay and Marcus Stoinis had boasted a better start for Punjab, but both the batsmen lost their wickets. Then came the super heroics from David Miller and Wriddhiman Saha, who rescued the team from a terrible situation and put up a total of 154 runs on the board.
The defense started with Mohit Sharma and Axar Patel turning the tide of the match right from the very beginning of the Lions’ innings. While the former notched up two wickets, Patel dismissed four batsmen to send his team on their way to a crunching win as Gujarat could only accumulate 131 at the end.
Both the franchises are on a high after winning their respective previous league matches. Kolkata will be playing at home, after quite a while and we can expect a packed stadium. For Punjab, the top order has been putting up good performances for both sides, but the middle-order has been a concern for Kings XI.
Overall, if KKR plays their regular cricket, they can clinch a win against Kings XI Punjab
