About the Match
IPL 5 defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on the debutants of this IPL Sunrisers Hyderabad (SH) on Sunday. The match 17 of IPL 6 will be played at KKR’s home ground, Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 14, 2013 at 4 PM IST. The other match that will be played on Sunday is between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab later during the day.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
KKR had a good start with a win over Delhi Daredevils but thereafter they have lost two consecutive matches against Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. KKR skipper looks to be in good touch but is yet to convert his starts into big ones. The other batsmen have not clicked including some big names like Jacques Kallis and Yusuf Pathan. Brendon McCullum is now available for selection and it will be a tricky situation for Gambhir to fit him in the side. It clearly appears that the team is being too dependent on just the performance of the skipper which is not a very good sign. Talking about bowling, again there is Sunil Naraine who has done superbly and is among top 5 wicket takers as of now in current edition. No other bowler has been consistent and they have been quite expensive as well which means that the team is relying again on one bowler heavily.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SH)
SH has been among the consistent teams in IPL 6 and surely have impressed and surprised many. They have won 3 games out of 4 played till now and are at number three position in the table as of now. The biggest asset of SH has been its outstanding bowling spearheaded by the South African fast bowler Dale Steyn. Their bowlers which consist of Steyn, Ishant Sharma, Thisara Perera and Amit Mishra have been superb and quite disciplined. Infact the first three bowlers have already taken six wickets each and Mishra has taken five and they have been economical as well. However the batting of the team is not very strong and this can be judged from the fact that in all the matches played till now just one half century has been scored by a batsman of SH who is Cameron White. Their openers Parthiv Patel and Akshath Reddy and the skipper Kumar Sangakkara have not lived upto the expectations. White is the only batsman who has looking in good form and lot would be expected from him in this match as well.
KKR has lost their last two matches and they would go all out to win this match at any cost and they have the advantage of playing at home with them. The team has big players but if they have to defend their title they have to play as a unit and their best players have to contribute. The last match played against RCG was a disaster as Gayle literally murdered every bowler under his storm. On the other hand SH would again rely on its bowling unit to do the job for the team and not let KKR score big. SH have been among the most impressive sides but their batting has come under pressure whenever required to deliver and they would like to improvise on it. According to us, the defending champions KKR have a very thin edge over SH and we predict them to win this match.
