About the Match
Two teams that are struggling to find their rhythm will once again do battle in this tournament. Both the Khulna Titans and the Chittagong Vikings sit squarely in the middle of the league table and need to string some wins together to be able to stay in contention for the playoff spots. The first time that these two sides met in BPL 2017, the Khulna Titans registered a comfortable victory.
A washout in the last game means that the Khulna Titans are going to enter this match with many of the same questions that they did in the last match. Their search for consistency at the top of the order will continue with Chadwick Walton expected to open the batting with Nazmul Shanto or Michael Klinger.
We would be extremely pleased if the Titans decided to break up this duo and maybe push someone like Rilee Rossouw up the order since he is much better equipped to take advantage of the power play overs than either of the players.
Michael Klinger should bat at 3 and guide the innings along followed by Mahmudullah and Craig Braithwaite. The West Indian has been the star of the Khulna Titans so far in the tournament with 117 runs to his name at an average of 58.50, strike rate of 195.00, and eleven sixes to his name.
Only Rossouw in the side has hit more than 100 runs in the tournament so far.
For the Titans to win more matches, their batting must deliver more consistently.
The bowling has been a much better story for the Titans this season as Abu Jayed promises to uplift the Bangladeshi fast bowling stocks in the years to come. He has taken 7 wickets from the four matches he has played and bowled in some of the most difficult stages of the matches.
Joffra Archer has also displayed real speed on a consistent basis and taken six wickets in the tournament at an excellent economy rate.
The Titans have a bowling attack which can make life for any opposition team.
Just one win from five matches and a single point from a washout has left the Chittagong Vikings in a tough position. It is not that the Vikings are a bad team but they have not been able to get their players to perform consistently so far.
The standout batsman for them so far has been Luke Ronchi with 151 runs to his name at a phenomenal strike rate of 193.58. He only knows how to play one way and will continue to go hard at the bowling.
That approach can pay off big time when Ronchi gets going but also has a high rate of failure.
This means that some of the other batsmen in the side like Sikandar Raza, Soumya Sarkar, Dilshan Munaweera, and Misbah ul Haq need to take more responsibility on their shoulders. None of the names that we just mentioned are great T20 players or have excellent records recently but they all have the potential to chip in with some useful knocks.
Chittagong Vikings is a team that will depend all of its players to contribute towards victories rather than depending more on individual brilliance. The form showed far does not leave us too positive about their chances.
The Vikings bowling is also a matter of great concern. Taskin Ahmed and Subashis Roy were supposed to lead the attack and impart some of the experience they have gained at the international stage to the youngsters. They have done well in a game or two but have to raise their performance levels greatly.
No one else in their team seems to be providing the bowling support the frontline bowlers need. Only Sunzamul Islam has taken five wickets at a decent economy rate but others like Reece, Munaweera, and Hayder have disappointed.
Hopefully, the entry of Chris Jordan into the playing eleven will change things around for them.
Pitch and Conditions
Rain is in the air and the current forecast states for a 40% chance of showers. The weather, though, is expected to clear up around the time the game starts so hopefully, we should get a full game in. The pitch will maintain its character and be slow, low, and offer assistance to the spinners as the game goes on.
A score of 150 should be considered par.
