We are almost half-way into the Abu Dhabi T10 League and the surprises just do not cease to come. We have already seen a couple of surprising events in the last few matches and there are plenty more to come. The upcoming match in the competition is to be played between Karnataka Tuskers and Qalandars, who both are neck and neck in the current points table. The game is to be played at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on 21st November. Both the sides have struggled for consistency in the tournament and this game might well kick-start the campaign for one of two sides. We expect a cracker of a contest between the two sides.
The Tuskers have played four matches up until now and while they could consider themselves lucky to score a point in their most recent fixture. They are currently placed sixth in the Super League table and will be looking to make a move on with a win in their remaining fixtures.
In their fixture against Maratha Arabians, Karanata Tuskers could only play half of the match as rain intervened before they could come out to bat. With the ball, however, they proved to be mighty expensive as the Arabians racked a total of 129 runs on the board.
Up until this match, the bowling of Tuskers had done fairly well in the tournament so far. They, however, failed to contain the Arabians as they got hammered for a total of 129 runs in 10 overs. Although he ended up without a wicket to his name, Shapoor Zadran was the pick of bowlers as he conceded just 16 runs off his 2 overs. Ahmed Raza, on the other hand, was carted for 34 in his two overs.
J Charles, Evin Lewis, Hashim Amla, Ross Whiteley, RN ten Doeschate, Shafiqullah, Ahmed Raza, Sandeep Lamichhane, Nathan Rimmington, S Zadran, KOK Williams.
The Qalandars have had a topsy-turvy ride in the tournament thus far. They started off on a winning note, but failed to carry on with the momentum as they first tied a match and then lost their remaining matches. Consequently, they are now placed at fifth spot at the ladder with three points to their name and a net run-rate of 0.847.
Their bowlers failed to do anything of substance against the Deccan Gladiators in their last match. Bowling first, the Qalandars conceded 128 runs in 10 overs with Lahiru Kumara going for 30 in his two and Jordan Clark going for 19 in his one over. Chris Jordan did pretty well as he returned with the impressive figures of 19 for 1 in his two overs.
Although their batsmen tried hard, they failed to get the momentum early in the match and that eventually became a telling factor in their loss. Dawid Malan scoring 49 was arguably the only silver-lining in their last outing.
Tom Banton, S Prasanna, Dawid Malan, Philip Salt, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Laurie Evans, Chris Jordan, Lahiru Kumara, George Garton, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Sultan Ahmed.
The two sides have had a similar campaign so far, and they would both love to get some more points on the board. Both the sides struggled with the ball in their respective last matches and will be keen to do better in the upcoming game. Considering the way the two teams have performed in the tournament, there's hardly anything to separate the two sides. On paper, however, the Qalandars appear to be marginally better and are therefore our pick to emerge on top on Thursday.
