While there may be a slight mathematical chance that the Kings XI Punjab team might qualify for the IPL 2019 playoffs, for all real intents and purposes they have been knocked out. A promising start to the year has come to nothing as the Kings XI get ready to play their last game. They will be playing in Mohali against the Chennai Super Kings.
The Chennai Super Kings have already qualified for the IPL 2019 Playoffs and could actually finish in the top-2 without winning this game as well. A win here though will leave nothing to chance and ensure they play the qualifier to be held in Chennai.
As far as games go, this is one of the few that we have had in IPL 2019 that doesn’t have much bearing to the final outcome.
KXIP vs CSK IPL 2019 is going to be played at the Punjab Cricket Association, IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.
Another disappointing performance from the Kings XI saw them lose their previous match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. That match was an eliminator of sorts and losing it has ended the hopes of the Kings XI to reach the IPL 2019 playoffs.
There are some fundamental problems with the team that has held it back this year. Chris Gayle and Lokesh Rahul have not been as effective as they were expected to be, David Miller has been a big disappointment, and the bowling attack has been pretty weak as well.
Ashwin has been a good captain and tried to get the most out of his side but after a point, there was nothing he could do either.
With this backdrop, it is difficult to see the Kings XI Punjab troubling the Chennai Super Kings in this match. For once, we don’t think there will be too many changes in the Kings XI side. Maybe Arshdeep Singh is dropped from the playing eleven but that could be the only change that we see in this game.
Mohammad Shami has been very good in IPL 2019 and that is a good sign of India looking ahead to the ICC World Cup 2019. He has been able to get the ball in the right place and pick up wickets whenever he has bowled.
The lack of support from players like Andrew Tye, Sam Curran, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Hardus Viljoen has prevented the Kings XI from fielding a good bowling attack. The Chennai Super Kings do not have a very strong batting lineup but the Kings XI will still need to be smart in the way they approach this match.
Fans of the Kings XI will be hoping for some fireworks from Gayle and company to end IPL 2019 and give them a reason to smile at the end of a very disappointing campaign.
Chris Gayle, Lokesh Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran, M Singh, Sam Curran, Harpreet Brar, Ravichandran Ashwin, AJ Tye, Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami.
MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Faf du Plessis returned to the side in the previous match and showed just how dominant Chennai can be when they play in their own conditions. The Delhi Capitals have been one of the best sides this year and they utterly demolished by Chennai in the previous match.
Now, Chennai can see a clear opportunity to finish in the top-2 by beating the Kings XI Punjab.
There are a lot of strengths in the side but a few potential pitfalls to watch out against.
The ground in Mohali is one of the bigger ones in the IPL. This can shine a light on the running between wickets and ground fielding. Chennai Super Kings have the oldest average age and this could be a problem, although, Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja are clear exceptions.
The Chennai Super Kings also lack power hitting options in their side. MS Dhoni has been batting very well and playing the role of the finisher but there is no one else in the team that has shown an ability to do the same.
Chasing a big total can be tricky for Chennai especially on a ground where the big hits can be difficult to come by.
The biggest strength for the Chennai Super Kings has been its bowling attack. Every single player has a clear role and is in good form. Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, and Imran Tahir. There is no weak link in this bowling attack and there is enough variation to be able to adjust to any conditions.
Also, the spinners have done well in Mohali because of the big ground dimensions so Chennai’s spinners also have a good chance of leading their side to another win. If Shane Watson and Suresh Raina can score some runs then Chennai will be in perfect conditions going to the IPL 2019 playoffs.
Faf du Plessis, SR Watson, SK Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir.
The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat first. This is a day match and the pitch could get a bit drier by the time the second inning is playing making batting a bit more difficult.

KXIP vs CSK IPL 2019 is going to be played at the Punjab Cricket Association, IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. The weather forecast for match day is pretty good. There is no rain expected although the temperatures will be quite high. This is a day match so the dew is not going to be an issue.
180 was scored batting first and then chased down with ease in the previous match here. We think a similar kind of pitch will be seen for this match. 180 or 190 should be considered as par at this venue.
The Dream11 team for Kings XI Punjab versus the Chennai Super Kings is a bit tricky considering that one team does not have much left to play for. This can affect the individual motivation and the team management can make some unexpected changes to the playing eleven as well. We update the Dream11 picks on Twitter after the toss has taken place. Follow @cricketbettings for all the updates.
Wicketkeeper: We have to choose between Nicholas Pooran and MS Dhoni in this match and we have picked the former Indian captain. Dhoni has been batting very well and is very valuable for Chennai down the order. Pooran played well in the previous match but could have a tougher time against the Chennai spinners.
Batsmen: We have picked Lokesh Rahul, Mayank Aggarwal, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, and Faf du Plessis in our team for this match. Chris Gayle is the one big name we have not selected. His form in the previous games has been poor and it looks like he is tired of the tournament. Shane Watson's form has also been quite poor apart from one game but the knockouts are the time when he usually starts playing well. Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis are also good options in the top-order on a pitch that will suit batting.
All-rounders: We have picked Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo in our team for this match. Both of them will bowl their full quota of overs and end up taking some wickets on most occasions.
Bowlers: Murugan Ashwin, Mohammad Shami, and Imran Tahir are the bowlers that we like in this match. Murugan Ashwin is someone who the opposition will try to attack and that gives him wicket-taking opportunities. Imran Tahir is the second highest wicket-taker in IPL 2019 while Mohammad Shami has been bowling very well also.
Captain and Vice-Captain: Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir are our picks for captain and vice-captain respectively. We think Chennai should be able to win this match and that these two players could play a bir role in that happening.

The Chennai Super Kings seem to hold all the aces going into this match. They definitely have a better bowling attack and are very well settled as a unit. The conditions may not perfectly suited to their game but we think that they have the experience to be able to adjust. The match could be closer than most people expect however Chennai is still the team most likely to win.
Bet on the Chennai Super Kings to win.
