Kings XI Punjab was unbeaten at Mohali in IPL 2018 and they started their home season in 2019 with a win as well. That win against the Mumbai Indians would have given the side a lot of confidence since it came while chasing a big total and there were contributions from most of their batsmen.
KXIP will now play against the Delhi Capitals, a side that has also won its previous match. The Delhi Capitals were involved in the first Super Over of IPL 2019 as they played one of the most exciting matches this year against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Coming through under so much pressure would have given that young side a boost as well.
KXIPvsDC IPL 2019 match is going to be played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Both the teams have won two of their three matches this season and a win here will set up their IPL 2019 campaign nicely.
The previous win against the Mumbai Indians came because of an excellent performance by the Kings XI side in all aspects of the game. At one stage it looked like Kings XI was going to have to chase a score of close to 200 but late wickets and some disciplined bowling meant they were chasing 177.
Chris Gayle, Lokesh Rahul, Mayank Aggarwal, and David Miller chased down the total with ease and showed just how effective the Kings XI top-order could be.
Now, against another strong batting lineup, the Kings XI batsmen will need to put in another good batting performance. This dependence on the top-4 could be a potential weakness for Kings XI Punjab. Their top-4 is followed by Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, and Hardus Viljoen.
The middle –order is perhaps one of the weakest in the IPL and could be exposed.
This could also be one of the reasons why Lokesh Rahul took a little bit of time at the beginning of the inning to try and ensure that the side does not lose too many wickets up front.
Ravi Ashwin made an expected change to his side in the previous game and brought in Murugan Ashwin for Varun Chakravarthy. The two Ashwins combined to bowl 8 economical overs and kept the scoring in check.
We don’t anticipate any changes to the bowling lineup of the Kings XI Punjab side for this match. Andrew Tye, Hardus Viljoen, Ravi Ashwin, Murugan Ashwin, and Mohammad Shami form a very decent bowling attack.
Lokesh Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller, M Singh, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin, Hardus Viljoen, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami.
The Delhi Capitals made many changes to their side in the previous match. They brought in Hanuma Vihari, Harshal Patel, and Chris Morris into the side. Hanuma Vihari did not have much of a role to play while the other two players contributed nicely with the ball.
Chris Morris appeared to be a bit short on speed and looked just a little below his best. He also struggled with the landing spot in Delhi and maybe that’s why his rhythm was a bit off.
Still, a bowling attack of Kagiso Rabada, Sandeep Lamichhane, Chris Morris, Harshal Patel, and Amit Mishra is a very good one. Amit Mishra will enjoy the big boundaries in Mohali although he could be targeted by Gayle and Miller in particular.
Delhi Capitals may want to give Hanuma Vihari a few overs against the left-handers if they get set.
The Delhi Capitals have batting lineup that is significantly still longer than Kings XI Punjab. Delhi has Hanuma Vihari at 6, not renowned for his T20 batting but an India international player none the less, and Chris Morris at 7 who is a genuine all-rounder.
Their top-5 is also very good. Prithvi Shaw made 99 in the previous match and narrowly missed out on getting to his first IPL century. Shaw, Dhawan, Iyer, Pant, and Ingram are all in very good form. They have been scoring runs in IPL 2019, international cricket, or other T20 leagues around the world.
For this match, we think Shikhar Dhawan could be a big threat. He has looked good without going on and has some very pleasant memories of playing in Mohali.
Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, RR Pant, Colin Ingram, H Vihari, Harshal Patel, Chris Morris, Sandeep Lamichhane, Kagiso Rabada, Avesh khan.
Winning the toss and chasing is a big advantage in Mohali. The ball comes on better at night and makes batting a bit easier. Expect the side winning the toss to field first.

KXIP vs DC IPL 2019 match is going to be played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium. The weather forecast for the match is for sunny weather and some respite from the heat as night falls but no significant dew. The conditions should not change much between the day and night although some players feel that the ball comes on a bit nicer at night.
The pitch at Mohali was excellent in the previous match and very good for scoring runs. The batsmen are likely to have another good time and we think a high scoring contest is in store. 170-180 should be considered par at this surface.
The Dream 11 combination for KXIP vs DC has been made keeping in the mind the possibility of another high scoring match in Mohali.
Wicket Keeper: The choice for wicket-keeper is a bit tricky. Both Lokesh Rahul and Rishab Pant have shown the ability to get big scores this season and are in good form. We are picking Rahul over Pant because of his position as an opener and also because he loves batting in Mohali.
Batsmen: We have picked the maximum five batsmen allowed in the side. Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Aggarwal, David Miller, and Colin Ingram all find a place in our Dream 11 side. All of these players are in good form and bat near the top of the order. Mayank Aggarwal changed the game with his brief knock in the previous game. He along, with Shikhar Dhawan seem poised for a big score. David Miller is also always a threat in Mohali.
All-rounders: The options for all-rounders are a bit thin and so we have picked just Chris Morris in this category. He bows in the death overs where wickets can come his way and also hits some big sixes.
Bowlers: Kagiso Rabada is the form bowler and will be full of confidence after the Super Over he bowled in the previous match. We have picked Rabada, Andrew Tye, Amit Mishra, and Sandeep Lamichhane. The spinners are a slightly risky bet but they can end up taking wickets thanks to the long Mohali boundaries.
Captain: Shikhar Dhawan loves batting at Mohali and so we have picked him as captain while we are taking a bit of risk with picking Amit Mishra as the vice-captain. Hopefully, he will be able to differentiate our side from the others by doing well.
Kings XI Punjab has an excellent record at Mohali. It did not lose a single match here in IPL 2018. They have also beaten Delhi in four out of the last five games they have played against each other. The Delhi Capitals have an excellent bowling attack and we believe they could cause an upset in this game. Delhi has a longer batting lineup and can both set and chase down big totals.
Back the Delhi Capitals to win.
