About the Match
Lancashire won a very important match against Worcestershire in their last game to stay alive in the competition and will need another win in this match against Warwickshire to have any chance of qualifying. Warwickshire is already on 15 points and a win here will put them through to the finals.
It was a tense affair in the last game because Lancashire was chasing down a small total with the threat of rain looming. That rain never did come through and eventually, Jos Buttler led his team to a crucial victory. They must, however, repeat everything and hope for a lot of results to go their win.
The architect of their last win was the bowling which has started to come together very nicely for Lancashire. Stephen Parry, Junaid Khan, Lilley and Matt Parkinson all had excellent days as they dried up the runs effectively and kept picking regular wickets.
Of course, the Worcestershire batting lineup is nowhere near as strong as what they will face against Warwickshire but the performance should leave them in some good spirits none the less. We like the look of this bowling lineup now that Junaid Khan is hitting his lengths consistently and believe a strong performance from him will be critical to Lancashire winning the match.
It was also encouraging to see Buttler, Livingstone, and Lilley get into the runs in the last match. Lancashire needs Buttler to continue scoring runs and carry it over the line. He is the biggest and probably the best T20 player in this team with a penchant for performing when it counts most.
The Birmingham Bears are so close to the finals place that they can probably smell it! A win in this match will take them to 17 points and that should be enough for them to qualify considering their strong net run rate as well.
A very comprehensive win in their last match against Durham will put the Bears in just the right frame of mind for this match. They finally pushed Ian Bell down the order and gave Colin de Grandhomme the chance to add impetus to the innings early on. They were pushed to make these moves in an effort to improve their run rate but should look to follow the same kind of approach in this match as well.
Pollock scored a 50 off 25 balls, Sibley was not out on 51 and de Grandhomme also got runs. There was still the impressive Hain waiting in the wings along with Ian Bell as well.
Birmingham’s batting lineup is very strong and with most of the people in form cannot be counted out at any stage of the game.
Jeetan Patel continued to pick wickets and be miserly with runs ending up with 2 wickets for 22 runs in his four overs. His spell will once again be crucial against Lancashire as they try to hit him off his line and take the game to him.
With Stone, Hannon-Dalby, and Elliot also bowling consistently, Birmingham seems to have all its bases covered.
Pitch and Conditions
A lot of rain has been forecast for this match and it remains to be seen whether Lancashire can get lucky with the weather for the second game running. The pitch will be excellent for batting if it ends up being used at all!
