About the Match
Lancashire lost a very crucial game to Yorkshire in their last match and that has left them with no option but to win their last remaining two games to have a chance to qualify. Even then, a couple of results will have to go their way. Worcestershire, on the other hand, has already crashed out of the tournament and would be looking to the end the tournament with something to cheer about.
With just four wins to their name so far, Lancashire has not had the best NatWest T20 Blast to remember. Of course, the extremely close nature of the groups means that they can still finish the group games well and have a realistic chance of making the final four.
First up is Worcestershire, a county that has been easy picking for most of the teams so far. The top order of Brown, Livingstone, and Lilley failed quite miserably in the last game eventually leaving a little too much for Lancashire to do.
We also believe that having Jos Buttler bat at 5 in the batting order is a little too low. He should ideally be batting 3 or 4 at very minimum. There was a useful performance by Croft at 4 in the last match as he scored 62 from 46 deliveries so Lancashire may very well stick to the same order.
There is plenty of firepower in the batting but Lancashire needs to unshackle its players and gets its strategy right. The bowling also had a tough time in the last match with only Parkinson standing out.
His four wickets for 23 runs in four overs may have saved Lancashire from chasing a mammoth target. Lancashire has only won one of its last six matches and will need something special to turn it around. They do, however, have an excellent record against Worcestershire having won seven out of their last eight matches.
The Rapids will add 2017 as another failed attempt to reach the final four stage of the T20 competition, something they have never managed to do in their history. It is difficult to motivate the players for a clash when they know they have nothing to gain but that is where the professionalism comes in.
Worcestershire will also be hit by the loss of John Hastings for this match as he traveled back to Australia nursing a foot injury.
There are still plenty of players to watch out for in this match like the hugely impressive Joe Clarke, Ross Whitely who hit six sixes in an over this season and OB Cox who has been having a decent season as well.
Mitchell Santner will be the biggest threat to Lancashire with the ball as he hoped to add to his 11 wickets this season.
Worcestershire Rapids may be down and out but is crazy to think they have no chance of winning. They have won three matches this season, while Lancashire just has one more, so there is not a huge difference between the sides.
For the Rapids to pull off an upset here though we think it is their batting that will have to really pile on the runs against the opposition because the bowling looks decidedly underwhelming.
Pitch and Conditions
Rain has been forecast for the match and so we could have shortened affair on our hands. The last meeting between the two was also rained out. The pitch at Manchester will allow the batsmen to swing freely without any threat whatsoever.
