About the Match
After winning two games on the trot, Leicestershire lighting take on the Warwickshire Bears who failed to carry their momentum in to their third game. The match is scheduled to start at 7 pm IST on 15th July at Grace Road, Leicester. Both Warwickshire and Leicester stand in the top half of the table with four points each. Warwickshire, however, have played one extra game. Warwickshire were brilliant in the first two games while chasing but their performance while batting first choked under pressure. With two teams having already tasted success and looking for more, the competition is going to be had and we can expect a close contest.
So far, Leicestershire have been fabulous in the tournament. Their batting was good while chasing, but it was their bowling which set up the task for them. In both the matches, their bowling has restricted the opposition for a total less than par score for the given ground.
Clint McKay wrecked havoc on Worcestershire batsmen as he picked five wickets for just eleven runs. Despite an ordinary performance from other bowlers, Worcestershire could only score 148 runs which were chased rather easily. Luke Ronchi and Cameron Delport got them off to a flying start as the duo added 41 runs for the first wicket in just four overs. Colin Ackermann once again proved to be mighty effective as he guided the chase and finished unbeaten till the very end.
Against all odds, Leicestershire is going strong in the tournament with both batting and bowling doing well. However considering Warwickshire's form, they'd have to step up both their batting and bowling to continue their winning run.
Jeetan Patel and Rikki Clarke have been standout bowlers for them. Rikki Clarke was fabulous for them in the first game against Worcestershire with Ian Bell and Sam Hain dictating the chase later.
In their last match, however, both their batting and bowling failed to live up the the task despite a strong start by their openers. Injury to Rikki Clarke hampered them during the batting as well as the bowling. Bowling has been Warwickshire's forte and with uncertainty over Rikki Clarke's availability owing to his injury, there's certainly a void left in their bowling department.
Going by their performance in three matches so far, it is evident that they like to chase totals. However, with Rikki Clarke being unavailable, the pressure will shift onto the likes of Jeetan Patel and Colin de Grandhomme. It will be tough to fill his boots, but their bowlers have the capability to ensure that his presence is not felt.
It is expected to be a thrilling encounter given the form of Leicestershire and Warwickshire's ability to bounce back into the form. It's hard to choose between the team, but Leicestershire's performance in the two games is unmatched. Ackermann is in sublime form and fine considering that coupled with the in-form bowling attack, Leicestershire is our pick for this match.
