About the Match
Libra Legends continue to be at the bottom of the table in the ongoing Masters Champions League; having no points so far, they will try to make amends with a win the upcoming game against Leo Lions at Sharjah on 7th February. Leo Lions are also in poor form as they have only 4 points and are placed fifth in the table; both teams need to pull up their socks and come back with a better performance on Sunday to be in the running. The contest could go either way and the team that cleverly use its resources and keep their nerves together has a better chance to emerge victorious.
Their recent match against Commanders ended in defeat as they were unable to defend 154 runs against a formidable batting line-up of the opponents; while Kallis and Lumb scored well-made half centuries, the others fell like a pack of cards and they could muster only 154 runs.
The bowling was also lacklustre with only Ervine and Doeschate being able to take a wicket apiece; the others gave away too many easy runs, making it difficult to pressurise Commanders, who reached the target with more than 3 overs to spare. They have a good bowling attack with players like McKay, Ervine, Hogg, Swann, Doeschate and others but they need to get regular wickets and contain the run-flow if they want to outwit the opposition here on Sunday.
The batting line-up has experienced players like Jacques Kallis, Michael Lumb, Ryan ten Doeschate and others in the middle order; they must focus on stabilizing the innings whether batting first or during chase in order to make amends and win the match before bowing out of the competition.
Leo Lions won their last match against Sagittarius Strikers, thanks to the brilliant innings of Johan Botha. Before that, they lost their last two matches against Virgo Kings and Arabians mainly because of poor batting and being unable to defend low totals; while they lost to Arabians by 8 wickets after posting only 132 runs on board, their defeat against Virgo Kings was by 4 wickets despite a terrific show by the bowlers, who took regular wickets and upset the opposition.
In the match against Virgo Kings, Jarvis and Peterson took 2 wickets each while Botha and Streak took a wicket apiece to stifle the opponents but in the end 146 runs were too little to fight for. The top order gave up too soon and they could only manage 60 runs for the loss of 5 wickets; Franklin stood firm as he posted 44 off 33 and Styris and Streak combined well to get a respectable total.
They have a good mix of experience and talent and if the batsmen can come out all guns blazing, then the bowlers have a better chance to help them win the match; in the game against Commanders the batsmen posted 156 runs on board and the bowlers led by Edwards, who took 4-33 annihilated the opposition to win the match. Styris, Streak and Botha are in good form and provide variety to the attack while Peterson can use his spin tactics to stifle the opposition here on Sunday.
With the semi-final round the corner, this is the last chance for Leo Lions to make it to the top four with a win here; on the other hand, Legends will be eager to bow out of the competition with a face-saving win. Although the contest could go down to the wire, we feel Libra Legends will fight back harder to emerge victorious to redeem themselves on Sunday.
