LIO vs TTN Match Prediction - Apr 18, 2019

The Lions and the Titans are right next to each other in the CSA T20 Challenge league table and the result of this match could be important in determining which side finishes in the top-2. It has been a frustrating time for most of the teams as the rain has interrupted normal proceedings and neither of the two teams competing in this match have been spared either.

The last match that the Lions were scheduled to play was rained out and the last two matches for the Titans were washed out as well. Both the teams would be keen to get on the park and earn some points after playing cricket rather than sharing them by sitting in the dressing room.

LIO vs TTN Team Previews

Lions

The Lions have an excellent batting lineup that is led by Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, and Temba Bavuma. They also have Ryan Rickelton, Wiaan Mulder, and Dwaine Pretorius to have one of the strongest playing eleven in the tournament.

The Lions have won two out of the three matches that they have played but their main batsmen have not quite fired up until now. Dwaine Pretorius is the only big name player that has lived up to his reputation and rescued the batting on a couple of occasions.

In fact, while all the attention has been on the batting, the Lions bowling has been performing exceptionally.

Bjorn Fortuin, Aaron Phangiso, Beuran Hendricks, and Dwaine Pretorius have all been very good with the ball. Beuran Hendricks has been getting early wickets in almost all the matches while Bjorn Fortuin has been very good from the other end also.

This new ball pairing has been putting the opposition on the backfoot and allowing the other bowlers to execute their plans without too much trouble.

Looking ahead, We think that the Lions batting is due for a big night. Players like Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen are current South African players that are not going to be kept quiet for too much longer. Back them to score runs and get them while the price is still attractive.

The Lions have been playing some good cricket but their best is yet to come.

Lions Playing 11

Reeza Hendricks, Ryan Rickelton, Temba Bavuma, RVD Dussen, PWA Mulder, Dwaine Pretorius, Nono Pongolo, Bjorn Fortuin, Migael Pretorius, Aaron Phangiso, MP Siboto.

Titans

It seems like an eon when the Titans last played some cricket in this tournament. They won their last match against the Cape Cobras and have since had to watch two of their matches being rained out. They will come up against the Lions fresh but they may actually be a little lacking in match time.

The Lions may have a very impressive batting lineup but the Titans are not too far behind either. They have names like Henry Davids, Theunis de Bruyn, Farhaan Behardien, and Tony de Zorzi in their side.

We are looking at Henry Davids and Theunis de Bruyn to have the most impact against the Lions if the Titans are to have a chance of winning. Both of these players are in good form and have already made some valuable contributions in this tournament.

They are also the kinds of players that thrive under pressure. Theunis de Bruyn is our one pick if we were forced to choose but we recommend backing both of them to score some runs in the upcoming match.

Farhaan Behardies has been criminally underutilized in this tournament and that does not look to about to change any time soon either. For some reason, Behardien is batting very low in the batting order and not getting enough time in the middle. The only conceivable reason might be to try and position himself as a lower order option for South Africa in the upcoming World Cup but the lack of runs could work against him.

The bowling lineup of Junior Dala, Shaun von Berg, Eldred Hawken, and Grant Thomson is quite decent but it does not have the class that the Lions have. We think that the Titans will need to win this match on the back of its batting and hope that the scoreboard pressure can help its own bowlers as well.

Titans Playing 11

Farhaan Behardien, Tony de Zorzi, Henry Davids, Theunis de Bruyn, DS Rosier, Rubin Hermann, GM Thomson, Shaun von Berg, Eldred Hawken, Junior Dala, Gregory Mahlokwana.

LIO vs TTN Toss Prediction

Pitch and Conditions

The CSA T20 Challenge match between the Lions and the Titans is going to be played at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. The weather has been pretty decent in Johannesburg leading up to the match but the forecast on match day is not very good. There are thunderstorms predicted early in the day and then once again later in the evening.

We could have a stop-start match or maybe even another rained out game if the timing of the rain is not right.

The pitch at the Wanderers is fast, bouncy, and good for batting. There is always something in it for the fast bowlers as well to help even out the contest.

LIO vs TTN Betting Tips

We think that the Lions hold all the aces in this encounter. They have a very strong batting lineup and a bowling attack that is decidedly better than that of the Titans. The Titans have a batting lineup that could spring a few surprises but a lot will have to go right for them to end up the winning side.

Back the Lions to win.
