The Titans are going to be in action after a lengthy break as they take on the Lions in this match. The two sides are right next to each other in the Momentum ODI Cup 2019 League table. The Titans have won one out of their two matches in the tournament so far while the Lions have yet to win a match out of their four played so far. Two of the matches that the Lions were involved in were washed out due to the rain and the side has lost only two matches.
The Lions fell short in a demanding run chase against the Cape Cobras in their previous match and would be keen to get their first win of the Momentum ODI Cup 2019. The Titans have some very good players in their side as well to try and keep the Lions winless.
One look at the Lions squad will make it clear that the side is a stronger batting unit than it is a bowling one. There are three current international South African stars in the Lions side which make it a formidable batting team.
Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, and Dwaine Pretorius are all excellent batsmen who have proven themselves at the international level. While Hendricks and van der Dussen bat at the top of the order, Pretorius is handy in the lower middle order as an all-round performer.
Both Hendricks and van der Dussen scored 37 in the previous match and got out just when they were beginning to look dangerous. We think that one of these batsmen will have to come good in the upcoming match as well to really give the side a good batting total.
There are some other promising players in the side as well like Ryan Rickleton and Kagiso Rapulana but they may not be ready to take a leading role just yet.
Pretorius top scored with 75 from just 42 balls in the last match and kept the Lions in the hint even when wickets were falling at the other end.
The bowling for the Lions appears to be a bit light and that should be a concern in this tournament. Most of the sides have a good batting lineup and the surfaces have been pretty unresponsive for the batsmen as well.
Dwayne Pretorius, Aaron Phangiso, and Malusi SIboto are the bowlers that we would watch out for. Bjorn Fortuin was the most economical bowler in the previous match and kept the pressure on the opposition throughout his spell.
Reeza Hendricks, RVD Dussen, Kagiso Rapulana, NJ Van den Bergh, Temba Bavuma, Dwaine Pretorius, PWA Mulder, Nandre Burger, Bjorn Fortuin, Aaron Phangiso, MP Siboto.
The Titans have a very strong batting lineup as well and should be pretty of confident of scoring well against the Lions bowling. Players like Henry Davids, Theunis de Bruyn, Heino Kuhn, Heinrich Klaasen, Farhaan Behardien, and Chris Morris make up an international quality batting unit.
The Titans lost their last match chasing 308 but did end up scoring 296 themselves. We are confident that with players of this quality, the Titans are going to be scoring more runs than most teams in their upcoming fixtures.
The highest scorer for the Titans in their previous match was actually a player that we did not mention. Tony de Zorzi scored 89 from 101 deliveries and almost led the Titans to a victory with Theunis de Bruyn. This makes the Titans top-order absolutely stacked.
We would have liked to see Farhaan Behardien bat a bit up the order but it looks like he is going to continue to play at number 6. Behardien and Morris are two extremely capable batsmen to have coming down in the lower-middle order. They have the power to boost totals and make valuable contributions during a chase.
Both the players were unable to do the finishing job in the previous game and that would have disappointed them a lot.
The bowling lineup for the Titans is pretty loaded as well. Junior Dala, Tabraiz Shamsi, Chris Morris, Lungi Ngidi, and Henry Davids once again form a formidable bowling unit. There is genuine pace in this attack alongside high-quality wrist spin.
The Titans are among the strongest teams in the Momentum ODI Cup 2019 and we definitely see them as title contenders in this race.
JD Vandiar, Tony de Zorzi, Junior Dala, Theunis de Bruyn, Heinrich Klaasen, Dean Elgar, Heino Kuhn, Farhaan Behardien, Tabraiz Shamsi, Chris Morris, Lungi Ngidi.
The side winning the toss is likely to want to bat first
The Momentum ODI Cup 2019 match between the Lions and the Titans is going to be played at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. The weather is forecast to be dry and sunny on match day so we should not have any interruptions or hold-ups.
The pitch at Senwes Park is usually good for batting. There is some good bounce and pace on offer which should help the ball race off the bat. The bowlers may also be able to get some assistance if they are willing to bend their backs.
We expect a high scoring encounter to take place between two strong batting sides.
The batting lineup of both the teams in this contest is very strong. The real differentiating factor will be the bowling and that is where the Titans take a big lead. They also have more power at their disposal in the lower-middle order.
Back the Titans to win.
