After a month-long tussle in South Africa's Premier T20 competition, we finally have our finalists in Lions and Warriors. Lions defeated Dolphins in the first semifinal whereas Warriors got past Cape Cobras in a cracking contest a couple of days ago. The two teams will not meet in the decider on Sunday, 5th May at the Wanderers, Johannesburg. The two teams had an interesting run in the round-robin stage with rain playing spoilsport in most of their respective matches. The title deciders are always high-pressure encounters and we expect it to be the same as well. The team that holds onto its nerve will finish the tournament with the coveted trophy in their hands.
Even though Lions have been a decent outfit in the South African domestic circuit this year, it is unlikely to have any impact whatsoever when they take the field against Warriors on Sunday. Lions' coach Enoch Nkwe has had a terrific run so far - he won Africa T20 Cup, then went only to claim the trophy in Mzansi Super League followed by 4-day Championship win with Lions.
In the league stage of the tournament, the Lions finished right at the top of the table with five wins in ten matches. Had it not been for the rain, they could have won more matches, but that wouldn't have made any difference to the points table anyway.
On paper, the Lions are a perfectly balanced unit. They have plenty of experience at the top of their order with the likes of Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks available. With Temba Bavuma and Co. available in the middle-order, they have plenty of experience right through the lineup. Bjorn Fortuin has been the best bowler for them and although others have not been as impressive as him, they have done a reasonable support job.
Reeza Hendricks, Ryan Rickelton, Temba Bavuma, RVD Dussen, PWA Mulder, Dwaine Pretorius, Nono Pongolo, Bjorn Fortuin, Migael Pretorius, Aaron Phangiso, Lizaad Williams.
On paper, Warriors really aren't a kind of side one would fancy to win a tournament. Having said that, they have always punched above their weight and have more often than not proved the above-mentioned wrong. They are yet to have a silverware in their trophy cabinet this year which is what they'll be looking for in the upcoming encounter.
Warriors peaked in the second half of the tournament and their build-up to the final has been nothing less than a miracle. They first displaced Cape Cobras from the second position in the points table and later defeated them to book a berth to have a go against Lions in the final of the tournament.
It was an exciting display of skills by the Warriors in the semifinal wherein despite being the underdogs for most of the match, they managed to turn it around. Sisanda Magala, Lutho Sipamla, and Andrew Birch played a key role in their qualification for the finals and they'll be looking up to these bowlers yet again to produce a miracle. If they can do that, we'll be in for a nail-biting spectacle.
Matthew Breetzke, Gihahn Cloete, JJT Smuts, Marco Marais, Sinethemba Qeshile, Lesiba Ngoepe, Onke Nyaku, Sithembile Langa, Andrew Birch, SSB Magala, Jade de Klerk.

Both the teams have exhibited some excellent cricket over the past few weeks. While Lions are better placed on paper and performance in the tournament, the Warriors are coming on the back off a miraculous win which can fuel enough confidence in any side to go all the way. Having said that, the Lions have been the team to beat in the tournament and we believe that their experience could come in handy in crunch situations. With good performances in the tournament so far and a well-balanced side, they are certainly the better placed to win the upcoming encounter and consequently add another silverware to their cabinet.
