LIO vs WAR Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Apr 24, 2019

The rain continues to play havoc with the CSA T20 Challenge. The league table features more points from rained-out matches than any other kind of result. It is a strange situation where the team at the top of the table has won a lesser number of matches than the team that is currently in second place!

Still, there is not too much that the players can do about this.

The Lions and the Warriors will be playing against each other in this match. The Lions are at the top of the league table right now with three wins from their four completed matches while the Warriors are on third place with two wins from their three completed matches.

Lions vs Warriors CSA T20 Challenge is scheduled to be played at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.

LIO vs WAR Team Previews

Lions

The Lions had to sit out a rained out game against the Dolphins and will be hoping to get back on the park in this match. The playing eleven for the Lions is one of the strongest in the tournament and we are sure that the players would like to win with their exploits on the field rather than sharing the points without doing anything.

As always, the main threat for the Lions is going to be its strong batting lineup.

Players like Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Dwaine Pretorius, and Temba Bavuma ensure that the Lions have one of the strongest batting lineups in this competition. In fact, there is enough quality in this side to win most matches on the back of its batting alone.

Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen were in the runs in their previous match. Reeza Hendricks took his time before opening up but it was the belligerent tinning from Rassie van der Dussen that really swung the match towards the Lions.

Having a strong lower order gives a lot of confidence to the batsmen and this why we are sure that this aggressive approach from the Lions batsmen will continue.

The bowling for the Lions is not bad either. Bjorn Fortuin, Aaron Phangiso, Malusi Siboto, and Nono Pongolo have done well without being spectacular. This is a bowling lineup that knows its plans and sticks to them.

There are few mistakes or loose deliveries and wickets are brought about by squeezing the batsmen rather than any moments of brilliance. In 20 over contests, there is nothing wrong with the plan at all.

Lions Playing 11

Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, RVD Dussen, Dwaine Pretorius, Temba Bavuma, Wihan Lubbe, Nono Pongolo, Bjorn Fortuin, Aaron Phangiso, Migael Pretorius, MP Siboto.

Warriors

The Warriors registered a very important victory against the Cape Cobras in their previous match. It was a fine effort from the batting lineup of the Warriors against the in-form side of the tournament. The Warriors are a very dangerous side. They may not have the big name international players that the Lions have but they have some battle-hardened domestic champions.

Players like JJ Smuts, Gihahn Cloete, Mathew Bretzke, and Andrew Birch make this a tough side to play against. In fact, the Warriors would have been thrilled that it was Marco Marais who made 75 from just 36 balls to be the chief contributor for the side.

This means that there is scope for more improvement once the senior players start hitting their stride. The sheer number of players that contribute with important performances for the Warriors is rare to see in a domestic side.

We would be looking for Smuts and Cloete in the upcoming match. They are both players that like playing against the big names and will set their eyes on the Lions for sure.

Andrew Birch is also in the national reckoning now and so putting in a strong performance against the star-studded Lions batting will be an excellent thing to have on his resume. The bowling attack around Birch is a little thin and that is the main weakness that the Warriors will have to overcome.

Lutho Sipamla, Jade de Klerk, and Sisanda Magala are decent bowlers but they are going to be under a lot of pressure going up what is essentially an all international batting lineup of the Lions.

Warriors Playing 11

Gihahn Cloete, Marco Marais, Matthew Breetzke, JJT Smuts, Sinethemba Qeshile, Onke Nyaku, Jade de Klerk, SSB Magala, Andrew Birch, Sithembile Langa, Lutho Sipamla.

LIO vs WAR Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat second. CHasing is the way to go at the Wanderers where the pitch can actually get better for batting in the second inning.

Pitch and Conditions

The CSA T20 Challenge match between the Lions and the Warriors is going to be played at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannes burg. The weather forecast for Johannesburg is much better than what we have seen across South Africa in the last couple of days.

The weather department has predicted a 25% chance of rain which actually goes down as the day progresses. Hopefully, we should finally be able to see some cricket being played again.

The pitch at the Wanderers has a little something in it for the fast bowlers but remains excellent for batting in the shortest formats of the game. We should see an even contest between the bat and ball with a lot of big hits as well.

LIO vs WAR Betting Tips

These are two of the strongest teams in the competition. We think the Lions with their stronger batting lineup should be able to win this match.

Back the Lions to win.
