The league stage in the CSA T20 Challenge happened to have a terrific finish as the Warriors jumped past the Titans to finish third on the points table. With Warriors now having the momentum, the T20 challenge is all set to finish with a flourish. They will now take on Lions in the play-off contest, the winner of which will move to play against the Dolphins in the grand finale.
The playoff of the CSA T20 Challenge is to be played at Kingsmead Oval, Durban, on 27th February 2021. Given that the two teams have looked in fantastic form of late, a hard-fought contest is certainly on cards.
Before facing a massive defeat at the hands of Dolphins, the Lions were cruising towards the top of the finish, but they eventually had to settle for the second spot. This could come back to sting them if they aren't able to register a win against the Warriors in the playoffs. Their league campaign was remarkably better than that of the Warriors as they finished with four wins and a net run-rate of 0.078.
With the way the Lions performed in the earlier part of the tournament, their progression to the next round was never under a threat. However, after facing a defeat against the Dolphins, they would have desperately wanted to bounce back in their last match, which was against the Cobras.
As had been the case in the tournament, Lions' bowlers set up the match beautifully for them. Even after resting Kagiso Rabada for the match, the bowlers managed to keep Cobras to a modest total of 144. Bjorn Fortuin and Lutho Sipamla picked up a couple of wickets each whereas Malusi Siboto and Wiaan Mulder both picked up one wicket each. Aaron Phangiso, as usual, was pretty economical as he gave away just 19 runs in his four overs.
With the kind of batting lineup the Lions have, it should have never been a difficult chase and it didn't prove to be one either. Reeza Hendricks scored a 59-ball 75 to guide the chase. With brief cameos from Temba Bavuma and Wiaan Mulder, the Lions made it home with three balls to spare and seven wickets in hand. With that win, the Lions will once again be brimming with confidence, and beating them could prove to be a colossal task.

Up until the last two matches, the Warriors were having a disastrous cricketing season. However, they've now turned it all around with two fantastic results in back-to-back matches. Thanks to those two wins, they finished higher than the Titans on the points table, qualifying for the next in the process. At the end of the league stage, they had nine points to their name with a net run-rate of 0.235.
After posting a win over Titans, the Warriors needed to get past the Knights in their last league match and they did so in style. Batting first on a seemingly difficult track, the Warriors' top-order finally found form as the likes of JJ Smuts, Gihahn Cloete, and Lesiba Ngoepe added 96 runs combined. However, their middle-order batsmen failed to do anything of substance and that pulled Warriors' total a little.
Even though a total of 157 was not humongous by any means, the Warriors' bowlers ensured that it looked like one. Mthiwekhaya Nabe and Anrich Nortje, in particular, were the pick of their bowlers as they together picked up five wickets for 38 runs in their eight overs combined. All in all, with batsmen finding form and bowlers already doing well, the Warriors could prove to be a tough customer to deal with even for the Lions.

The playoff of the CSA T20 Challenge is to be played between the two teams that had contrasting fortunes in the league stage. While the Lions always looked to be well-placed to qualify, the Warriors had to scamper through to progress up till here. Having said that, both sides have enough talent available to topple any given side on their day. Considering the two sides, on paper and performance both, the Lions appear to be having a huge edge with the experience they have. They have done remarkably well this season across the formats and will be brimming with confidence. For that reason, the Lions walk in as firm favorites to win the playoff and qualify for the grand finale of the CSA T20 Challenge.
