About the Match
The Titans are going strong with consecutive wins so far and they are placed on the top of the table with 21 points; they will go up against Lions, who are currently in the 4th place with 8 points, on 29th November at Johannesburg. The Titans’ last game was washed out by rain but prior to it, they had defeated Cape Cobras by 7 wickets; they had won against Lions by 8 wickets when they met earlier and will be determined to repeat the winning performance again. The Lions, on the other hand, suffered defeat against Warriors by 4 wickets and will look to redeem themselves with a better show here.
Batting first against Warriors, the top-order came out all guns blazing with the in-form Reeza Hendricks posting 81 off 63 while Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton scored 40+ runs each to take the total to 182. Fast-bowler Kagiso Rabada’s stupendous 3-25 looked enough to get them to victory; however, others like Willem Mulder, Beuran Hendricks, and Marques Ackermann gave away too many runs allowing the Warriors to wrap up a win. Rabada’s performance got him the player of the match award and although Aaron Phangiso and Viljoen contributed with a wicket each, they couldn’t stop the opponents from winning.
Previously against Cobras, it was the batsmen who failed to chase down a humble total of 146 runs despite a well-made half-century by Rassie van der Dussen. The bowlers had brought in regular wickets thanks to 2 wickets each by Rabada, Mulder, and Viljoen but the middle-order batsmen failed to impress.
Against Titans in the earlier match, only Reeza Hendricks did well to post an unbeaten 67 but others couldn’t get the scoreboard ticking in the reduced innings of 15 overs. The bowlers failed to defend 127 and they lost the match by 8 wickets through DLS method. The players will be eager to avenge their previous defeat and could come out all guns blazing with bat and ball.
The fast-bowlers led by Dale Steyn took consistent wickets to stifle the Cobras in the last game to 119. Steyn, Siboto, and Lungisani Ngidi took 2 wickets apiece while spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and Aiden Markram contributed with a wicket each. The batsmen then chased down the target successfully after losing Henry Davids and Quinton de Kock early on. Markram posted an unbeaten 51 while AB de Villiers scored 37 runs to take the team to another victory.
Against Lions, captain Albie Morkel used his pace skills to dismiss 3 opponents and restrict them to 127; he was supported by David Wiese and Ngidi and then the batsmen pulled off a win within 12 overs in the rain-affected game. Quinton de Kock posted 39 while Morkel showed his all-rounder talent posting a brilliant 41 off 16. AB de Villiers also contributed with 50 off 19 to take the team to a thumping win.
They have proved to be a formidable force to reckon with, and could pose a tough challenge to Lions here again.
The Titans come here at the back of a win whereas Lions have suffered two consecutive losses recently. When they met earlier, Titans had secured a big win and we feel they are in tremendous form to repeat it on Wednesday.
