About the Match

Warriors made a comeback with a win against Dolphins by a close 1-run margin and currently have 10 points in their kitty; they continue to be at the bottom of the table and will take on Lions, who are placed 4th with 12 points, at Potchefstroom on 8th December. The two teams had met earlier, and Warriors had won the contest by 4 wickets; it needs to be seen which side can overcome the challenges on the field and emerge victorious on Friday.

Lions

Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks put up a sturdy 179-run opening partnership while batting first against Warriors; Hendricks top-scored with 81 off 63 and Dussen posted 45 runs. Ryan Rickelton scored 41 runs and they could get to 182 runs in the end. However, the bowlers couldn’t defend the total despite fast-bowler Kagiso Rabada’s 3-25 and regular breakthroughs by Hardus Viljoen, Aaron Phangiso and Beuran Hendricks. They lost the match by 1 run, and will be motivated to avenge their defeat with a win here. Against Cobras, they failed to chase down 145 runs despite Rassie van der Dussen’s well-made 51. Reeza Hendricks and Mangaliso Mosehle also contributed with 20+ runs each, but others down the line failed to add on runs, leading to a 6-run defeat. Earlier, the bowlers did well to dismiss opponents at regular intervals with Kagiso Rabada, Hardus Viljoen and Willem Mulder taking 2 wickets each. However, the batsmen put up a dismal performance and they suffered loss in the end. The Lions have experienced batsmen and bowlers in their team, who can try to dominate the Warriors in all departments of the game here.

Warriors

The bowlers did an excellent job, defending 153 runs against Dolphins recently and winning the match by 1 run. JJ Smuts and Andrew Birch took 2 wickets each while BD Walters stifled the opponents with a wicket and his economical spell; Sisanda Magala also bowled well to restrict the Dolphins’ chase. With the bat, Christiaan Jonker posted a well-made 59 while Colin Ackermann scored 37 runs; Yaseen Vallie and Lesiba Ngoepe kept the scoreboard ticking and they could build a total of 153. Against Titans, the batting line-up succumbed under pressure while chasing 172; Smuts led from the front scoring 53 off 30 but others like Ackermann, Colin Ingram and Christiaan Jonker failed to impress. They lost the match by 56 runs through D/L method, after a middle-order collapse. Earlier, bowlers gave away too many runs with players like Walters, Magala, Birch and Ingram going for more than 13 runs per over. They won the match against Lions by 4 wickets after the batsmen successfully chased down 182 runs thanks to Colin Ingram’s powerful 89 off 48 and good support by Christiaan Jonker, who posted 39 runs. The Warriors have strong resources to repeat the winning performance against Lions on Friday.

Our Prediction

When they met previously, Warriors emerged victorious and will be determined to do so again. The Lions could leverage their strong top-order to put up a tough challenge but we feel that Lions who are in fine form and need to secure a win in this all-important encounter will prevail.
