The dust has almost settled on the group stages of the TNPL and we have two teams that have qualified for the knockouts already. The other two spots are still being hotly contested and there are four teams which have a chance of making it through. This match will be played between the Siechem Madurai Panthers, who have already qualified but still wants to win this match to end in the top-2, and the Lyca Kovai Kings, who must win this match to have any chance of qualification.
An exciting season of the TNPL promises to bring the group stages to a close with a bang.
Three wins from six matches is a fair result for the Lyca Kovai Kings. How far can one man carry a team? Shahrukh Khan of the Lyca Kovai Kings is trying to find out. He has close to twice the runs of the next best batsman in the team, has hit the most sixes, the most fours, has the best strike rate, and the most fifties.
It’s safe to say that his wicket is going to be crucial to the outcome of the game.
Mukund and Srinaath have been the other two batsmen that have played a couple of good innings but are nowhere close to being as consistent as the team requires them to be. After six matches in the tournament, the Lyca Kovai Kings do not look settled in the batting department and that is a big worry.
We expected Rohith and Antony Dhas to have had better tournaments for the Kovai Kings than they did but they look pretty out of touch. Getting this stuttering batting unit to fire at this most important juncture in the tournament is going to be crucial for the Lyca Kovai Kings.
The Kings have a decent bowling lineup led by T Natarajan who is giving away runs at just 4.78 per over so far. That is just incredible in T20 cricket where bowlers keep 8.00 per over as a benchmark. Ajith Ram and Rajesh have had good a tournament as well along with Natarajan making the Lyca Kovai Kings a decently balanced side.
There is no doubt that the Kings will have to play out of their skins to get over the line in this one. They are taking on the form team of the tournament with a batting lineup that is struggling and a bowling lineup that is just about decent.

With four fifties from six matches and a total of 306 runs to his name, Arun Karthik has been one of the best batsmen in this entire tournament. He is certainly the rock of the Madurai Panthers who will be hoping to see him extend his good run till the end of the tournament.
With five wins from six matches, the Madurai Panthers have ensured a place in the knockouts. This is still not a dead rubber for them because they want to finish in the top-2 or maybe even the top of the table by winning this match.
The Panthers have a strong batting lineup that is more than just Arun Karthik. Sargunam, Chandran, and Kousik have all contributed well accounting for the success that the Panthers have had this season.
The team also have four bowlers that have taken seven wickets each. Chakravarthi, Shah, Tanwar, and Kousik have all bowled decently. None of them is going to run through sides but the combination of them together has been pretty effective so far.
The Madurai Panthers have found a healthy balance in their side and they are unlikely to change it at this stage of the tournament. Qualifying for the knockouts would have been a target for the team at the beginning of the season but a title does not seem too far now.
Arun Karthik, D Rohit, Shijit Chandran, XT Sargunam, Jagatheesan Kousik, AB Tanwar, SP Nathan, R Karthikeyan, Varun Chakravathi, Rahil Shah, L Kiran Akash.
The team winning the toss is likely to bat first
Tirunelveli has started to become very difficult for the batsmen to score in as the pitch becomes lower, slower, and takes more spin with every match. Scoring runs with the new ball is going to be crucial and that is where the teams will want its best players to bat. A score of around 140 should be considered a good target on this surface.
