Loughborough Lightning continued their superb form and secured a berth in the finals as they thumped Surrey Stars just a day ago. They are now set to take on Lancashire Thunder in their upcoming contest. While this forthcoming contest is inconsequential with respect to qualification scenarios, the match between the sides is to be played on 25th August at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham.
The Lightning became the second team to secure a place in the playoffs with a massive win over Surrey Stars in their previous match. They're now placed second at the points table, thanks to five wins out of eight games played amounting to a total of 23 points.
They had a poor start to the tournament, but have picked up pace in the recent matches and are currently on a four-match winning streak. In their previous game, their bowlers bowled fantastically to restrict Stars to just 147 before their batsmen made the chase look super easy. The Lightning reached the total with nine balls to spare.
Mignon du Preez has been in superb form for them, and with a 48-run knock in the previous match, she made it into the top five scorers of the tournament. She now has 246 runs to her name with a stupendous average of 61.5 and will be a key player not only in their next match but in all the matches going forward.
Hayley Matthews, Amy Ellen Jones, Chamari Atapattu, Georgia Elwiss, Mignon du Preez, Georgia Adams, Kathryn Bryce, Jenny Gunn, Sarah Glenn, Abigail Freeborn, Joanne Gardner.
Despite coming close on multiple occasions, Lancashire Thunder continues to stay winless in the tournament so far. They've played eight matches in the tournament so far, and the only two points they have on the board is because of their one tied game. Although they are no longer in contention for qualifying to the next round, they'd love to win their remaining two games and end their campaign on a happy note.
They are coming off a heart-wrenching defeat at the hands of Yorkshire Diamonds wherein their bowlers failed to defend a relatively high score. Batting first, their batsmen racked up a total of 164 runs on the board, their highest for the season, but the lack of discipline and accuracy was apparent once again as Yorkshire Diamonds overhauled the total with remarkable ease.
In the tournament up until now, the Thunder have been over-reliant on Harmanpreet Kaur to do the damage with the bat. They'd be pretty relieved to see other players contribute in the previous match and will be looking to step up from there. If they can do that and their bowlers can execute their plans, Thunder could be a tough team to beat, even for the rampaging Lightning.

Both the sides have had contrasting results in their past few matches. Just a few days ago, these two teams were placed neck and neck at the ladder, and while the Lightning have gone to the second spot from there, the Thunder have pushed themselves further down the pit. Comparing the two sides on paper and the basis of form in the tournament so far, Loughborough Lightning are a better side, and are, therefore, out pick to win the upcoming match on Sunday.
