With yet another loss in the tournament, Lancashire Thunder continued to be worst performing team of the season, and they no longer stand a chance to qualify for the playoffs. They lost their last match to Loughborough Lightning, who are currently placed at the third spot and are looking all set to progress to the next round. They, however, will need to win at least one of their remaining three fixtures. Their subsequent encounter is against Surrey Stars, who are currently at the fourth spot at the ladder and desperately need a win to maintain their position. With both teams having something to gain from a win here, we expect a hard-fought contest between the two sides.
Lightning are currently on a three-match winning streak and have been in rampaging mood in all those matches. They didn't have a particularly good start to the competition but have certainly picked up speed in the last few games.
They currently have 19 points to their name, thanks to four wins in seven matches. To complement the 19 points, they have a superb net run rate of +0.528, which could prove to be handy if things come down to the net run rate at the back-end of the league stage.
On paper, Loughborough Lightning have a pretty good unit, but a poor performance by their top-order in the last fixture could be a cause of concern for their management. However, the way their middle-order bailed them out of trouble should also give them confidence. With their bowlers in fine form, they have a pretty well-settled unit and if the likes of Amy Jones, Mignon du Preez, and Chamari Athapaththu can play to their potential, betting Loughborough Lightning is not going to be an easy task.
Amy Ellen Jones, Hayley Matthews, Chamari Atapattu, Georgia Elwiss, Mignon du Preez, Georgia Adams, Jenny Gunn, Kathryn Bryce, Sarah Glenn, Lucy Higham, Kirstie Gordon.
Precisely opposite to the Lightning's start, Stars got off to a pretty decent start but lost their way in the subsequent matches. They've still managed to cling onto the fourth spot in the points table, and unless they want to lose this position to Yorkshire Diamonds, they'd have to win at least two matches going forward to be certain of their fate.
They have 11 points to their name, and their downhill trend started after their loss against Loughborough Lightning from which they are yet to recover. They looked well placed at the halfway stage in their previous match, which was against Western Storm, by relatively sedate batting in the early overs left them with too much work to do at the end, which cost them the match.
Sarah Taylor has been their star batsmen so far and even though she's got support from Natalie Sciver and Lizelle Lee in patches, the lack of consistency from the other batsmen has been a crucial factor contributing to their poor run. Their bowling performance, as well, has appeared to be fading away with as the tournament has progressed and their bowlers will need to buckle and put their best foot forward for the Stars to arrest the slide and reinforce their position in the top-four.
Lizelle Lee, Bryony Smith, Natalie Sciver, Dane van Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp, Aylish Cranstone, Laura Marsh, Mady Villiers, Amy Gordon, Sarah Taylor, Eva Gray.

Surrey Stars are the defending champions of the tournament but have undoubtedly failed to play like the champions. They have been inconsistent, showed plenty of vulnerabilities, and have been over-dependent on Sarah Taylor in the middle order. This is a must-win fixture for them, and they'll be looking to avenge their previous defeat at the hands of the same team. The Lightning, on the other hand, have been fabulous in their last three matches and with almost every player contributing, they go in as firm favorites to topple the Stars yet again.
