The new season of the PSL has brought with it some things that are quite familiar to fans of the league. We are referring to the poor start by the Lahore Qalandars who started PSL 2020 with a big loss in their first match.
They are now going to be playing against Islamabad United, a team that has just recorded a superb victory in the match against the Multan Sultans. The contest looks set to be a mismatch on the face of things but we will see whether that comes to pass.
The Lahore Qalandars have to be careful of not falling into the same rut as every season and actually make a move upward in the table.
Lahore Qalandars vs Islamabad United PSL 2020 is going to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on the 23rd of February 2020.
We had hoped to see an improved performance from the Lahore Qalandars in the previous match but we were bitterly disappointed. It appears as if the side is going to be dependent on individual brilliance once again after picking some players that looked out of sorts.
The fantastic bowling attack that Lahore Qalandars possess also did not translate into an advantage on the field. Haris Rauf found the going tougher at home than he did in the BBL while Usman Shinwari was very wayward. Shaheen Afridi was the only bowler to have some sort of lasting impact on the match.
The real question is going to be about the batting. Chris Lynn played a few big shots before getting out and he appears to be the one big hope for the Lahore Qalandars. Fakhar Zaman, Ben Dunk, Mohammad Hafeez, and Dane Vilas did not impress while Sohail Akhtar did manage to get a few lusty blows away.
The Lahore Qlaandars have a batting lineup that is pretty decent on paper but it may struggle to put up match-winning performances too often if Chris Lynn does not play a major part.
F Zaman, Chris Lynn, SR Patel, Mohammad Hafeez, DJ Vilas, Sohail Akhtar, D Wiese, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Usman Khan, Muhammad Faizan.
Amad Butt redeemed himself from the horror performance in the previous match and ended up with four wickets to his name. He was the force behind keeping the Multan Sultans quiet and ensured their score never got out of hand.
Faheem Ashraf bowled well and Shadab Khan had a better game as well. It is clear, however, that Shadab Khan is still quite a bit far away from being at his best. With Muhammad Musa, Akif Javed, and Hussain Talat to chip in, the Islamabad United bowling attack is decent without being outstanding.
Luke Ronchi, Colin Munro, and Dawid Malan all played very well at the top of the order to win the match against the Multan Sultans. It was great to see Colin Munro score some runs after having struggled for a large part of the previous three months.
Luke Ronchi top-scored with 74 and showed that age has not dulled his skills just yet.
The batting has been the main concern for Islamabad United and now that its top-order is firing, the team is looking much stronger.
It was also good to see that Islamabad United did not throw away another winning position in this match like it did in the previous one. The decision of keeping the same team for this match also showed that the coach is backing his players and not panicking early in the tournament.
Luke Ronchi, Colin Munro, Dawid Malan, Colin Ingram, Hussain Talat, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Amad Butt, Musa Khan, Safi Abdullah.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

Lahore is expected to witness a dry and clear day on match day and we should not have any interruptions. The pitch at the Gaddafi stadium is a bit slower than at the Karachi National Stadium. This does not make it a bad batting surface, though, just that the batsmen have to take more advantage of the powerplay.
The spinners will also play a bigger role at this venue.
We are going with Islamabad United in this match. They have shown enough depth in their batting and bowling to come up with two good performances on the trot. As a side, they are more balanced than the Lahore Qalandars and less dependent on individual brilliance to win matches.
Bet on Islamabad United to win.
