The Lahore Qalandars have continued their tradition of occupying the last place in the Pakistan Super League. Just one win from five matches has left it needing to win most of its remaining matches to try and have a chance of qualifying for the PSL 2020 knockouts.
They are going to be taking on the Quetta Gladiators, who sit just above them in the PSL points tally right now. The defending champions have had a tough time this season as their top-players have not been at their best. A lack of match-winning performances from the local players has hit them hard.
Can either of these two teams turn things around?
Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators PSL 2020 is going to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on the 7th of March 2020.
A couple of match-winning performances from Ben Dunk and Samit Patel may have raised hopes of a Lahore revival but they were shortlived as the Qalandars batting crumbled in the very next match. Chris Lynn, Ben Dunk, and Mohammad Hafeez fell early while trying to push along the scoring while Salman Butt played an absolutely selfish knock of 21 from 24 balls.
This kind of a strike-rate is not acceptable for any batsman but especially not so for an opening batsman facing the bulk of the deliveries in the powerplay.
The lack of depth in the batting became apparent once the early wickets fell. Samit Patel was not able to repeat his heroics from the previous match and there was nothing much to follow. This lack of runs from Chris Lynn and Salaman Butt has hurt the Lahore Qalandars consistently in PSL 2020.
Mohammad Hafeez started the tournament in excellent form but he has tailed off as well.
It is difficult to write this batting lineup off completely because of the talent that is in it but the performances in PSL 2020 make us very wary of backing them.
A couple of changes to the Lahore Qalandars lineup left them a bit underwhelming in this regard as well. Usman Shinwari had a better night as he was not smashed all over the place but he did not come close to replacing Shaheen Afridi.
If Afridi is not fit for the upcoming match, the Lahore Qalandars could struggle once more.
DJ Vilas, F Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, SR Patel, Sohail Akhtar, Raja Farzan, D Wiese, Shaheen Afridi, Salman Irshad, Dilbar Hussain.
Jason Roy, Shane Watson, and Ben Cutting have been brilliant for the Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2020. Jason Roy and Ben Cutting more so because Shane Watson seems to be either great or terrible but overall, these are three players that have managed to keep the Quetta Gladiators competitive.
Ahmed Shahzad, Mohammad Nawaz, Azam Khan, and Sarfaraz Ahmed have combined to put up a few promising innings but nothing too impressive just yet. Azam Khan’s two match-winning innings have to be taken into consideration but his recent form has not been very promising.
Overall, the Quetta Gladiators batting lineup is going down the wrong path and seems to be falling out of form at just the wrong time.
The Quetta Gladiators have three wins to their name, the same as the team in second place, but they have lost an additional match. That means the pressure is going to be on the team to win all or at least two out of the three remaining matches.
Naseem Shah is showing just why he is going to be a superstar of the game for a very long time to come and is the de facto spearhead of the bowling unit. Mohammad Hasnain, Tymal Mills, and Ben Cutting all form very good backup bowlers as well.
The Quetta Gladiators have a strong bowling attack than the Lahore Qalandars but it is the batting that is the big worry in this contest.
JJ Roy, SR Watson, Ahmed Shehzad, Ben Cutting, Mohammad Nawaz, Azam Khan, Sarfraz Ahmed, Sohail Khan, Fawad Ahmed, Zahid Mahmood, Mohammad Hasnain.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

There is some rain forecast to fall in Lahore as well on match day. The forecast does get a bit better as the day progresses so we may get lucky and actually get to see some cricket. The pitch at the Gaddafi Stadium has been very good for batting.
There is nothing in it for the bowlers and the boundaries have been brought in to allow for plenty of big hits as well.

We don’t think there is anything that makes either of these teams as clear favorites. Both of them have been in poor form and have underperformed their potential. This is why we are going solely by the potential lineups and that is where the Quetta Gladiators have an advantage.
The likes of Jason Roy, Shane Watson, and Naseem Shah provide the edge to the Quetta Gladiators in this match.
Bet on the Quetta Gladiators to win.
