We are just a couple of weeks away from getting the top four teams in the ongoing Kia Women's Super League, and the things are beginning to pan out beautifully. The upcoming contest between Loughborough Lightning and Lancashire Thunder could prove to be a turning point for both the sides. The 20th match of the tournament, between the two sides mentioned above, is set to be played on Tuesday, August 20th, at the iconic venue of Emirates Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. Lancashire Thunder are currently languishing at the bottom of the table, and a win here could kick-start their campaign as we have seen so often in many other T20 tournaments. Loughborough Lightning, on the other hand, just hanging by a thin thread inside of the top-four teams, and will like only to strengthen their position. Both the sides have their reasons to put their best foot forward and strive for a victory, and we expect a nail-biting contest between the two sides.
Before the tournament started, not many would have expected Lancashire Thunder to be without a win even after the halfway stage. They are currently placed right at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate of -0.961. The only two points they have earned are because of their tied match with Southern Vipers, which was also their highest point of the tournament so far.
On paper, Lancashire do not have an as bad team as they've fared in the tournament. They have a terrific bowling attack consisting of Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross, and Emma Lamb, all of whom have done reasonably well in the competition. The three bowlers have picked up 22 wickets in the season combined. Emma Lamb has been the pick of their bowlers with eight wickets to her name while Sophie Ecclestone and Kate Cross have picked up seven wickets each.
It's been surprising to see their bowling do so well and batting not even matching to the standards set, let alone surpassing them and barring Harmanpreet Kaur, who has been sensational not only for them but also in the tournament. She has scored 210 runs at an average of 42 which includes two half-centuries. However, the lack of support from anyone else in the lineup has been the chief problem for the Thunder, and if the rest of their batsmen can bat around her, it won't be surprising if Thunder gets back to the winning ways.

Loughborough Lightning didn't have the kind of start they wanted to the tournament but have picked up pace in their last couple of fixtures. With two back to back wins in their previous two encounters, Loughborough Lightning are at the third spot in the points table with 14 points to their name.
In their most recent encounter, they ran past Yorkshire Diamonds wherein their bowlers played a significant role by restricting Diamonds to a modest total. Their batsmen then chased the target of 130 with considerable ease as they won the match in the last over with six wickets in hand.
Mignon du Preez has been the chief architect for most of their wins in the tournament so far and is one of the leading run-scorer in the competition. She has scored 180 runs at an average of 60, including an enterprising knock of 70. Amy Jones is also beginning to get her touch back and is the second-best scorer for Lighting with 159 runs to her name.
Even though individually their bowlers haven't been as good as that of Lancashire Thunder, they have done a pretty good job as a unit. With six wickets to her name, Sarah Glenn has been the pick of their bowlers, and she's been ably assisted by the likes of Kathryn Bryn and Hayley Matthews.

Check out the Dream11 fantasy lineup for the 20th Kia Women's Super League match which is to be played between Lancashire Thunder and Loughborough Lightning
Lancashire Thunder are struggling to get going in the tournament, and this is perhaps their last chance to revive their campaign before it gets too late. Loughborough Lightning, on the other hand, have done exceptionally well of late and will be looking to carry on with the momentum. On paper, the Lightning look a better-balanced side with batting and bowling both contributing well. Lancashire Thunder, on the other hand, appear to be a little too over-reliant on Harmanpreet Kaur, who is so far shouldering a load of their batting all by herself. For those reasons, we think that Loughborough Lightning are better placed to emerge on top in this upcoming fixture on Tuesday.
