2Lyca Kovai Kings
Batting first against TUTI Patriots, the top-order batsmen tried to set a good foundation but it was left to Akshay Srinivasan to get them to a competitive total by scoring a well-made half-century. Harish Kumar also contributed well with 33 off 16 balls while middle-order players like Anirudh Sita Ram and Ravi Kumar Lohith pitched in with 20+ runs each. Spinners B Arun and S Ajith Ram contributed with 3 wickets each while medium-pacer S Mohammed dismissed one opponent but they were unable to defend 160 and lost the match by 6 wickets.
Earlier, against Super Gillies, Suryaprakash posted a superb 46 while others like Pradosh Ranjan Paul, JS Mohammad, and Ravi Kumar Rohith kept the scoreboard ticking to take the total to 146 batting first. However, it was hard enough for the bowling department to defend and outwit the opposition; spinner JS Mohammad took a brilliant 2-18 while Krishnamoorthy Vignesh and S Harish Kumar contributed with 2 wickets but they lost the match by 6 wickets in the end.
Overall, they have good resources with bat and ball but the batsmen haven’t been able to build strong partnerships while setting a target, thereby failing to conquer the opponents. They can try to put up a better show on Thursday night against the Super Giant.
Madurai Super Giant
They posted 163 runs batting first against Super Gillies but despite a good show with the ball by spinners Shahrukh Khan, Muruganatham and R Karthikeyan, who took 4 wickets between them, they failed to win the match. Fast-bowler L Vignesh also claimed one scalp but proved to be expensive. Earlier, openers Shijit Chandran and Arun Karthik posted an 116-run partnership, scoring 55 and 61 runs respectively but others down the line couldn’t keep the momentum and the good efforts went in vain.
Earlier, against Ruby Trichy Warriors, they fell short of chasing an 188-run target by a meager 2 runs despite a brave effort by captain Arun Karthik, who posted a superb 79 off just 34 deliveries. All-rounder L Vignesh made a good effort by scoring 38 runs but others like R Karthikeyan, Shahrukh Khan, and Prashanth Prabhu failed to impress. The middle and lower-order batsmen too couldn’t build steady partnerships and they lost the match in the end. Bowlers L Vignesh, M Raja, and spinner Karthikeyan took regular wickets but others gave away too many runs, leading to a big total set by the opponents.
They have been on a losing streak right from the beginning, and need to make a comeback here before it’s too late.
Although Lyca Kovai Kings have done well with the ball, they are yet to showcase their strengths in the batting arena; Super Giant batsmen are in good form but they need to display an all-round effort. The match could go down to the wire, but we feel that Lyca Kovai Kings will outwit Super Giants on Thursday to win their second match of the season.
