About the Match
After winning the last two matches, Kovai Kings have climbed up to the 2nd spot with 6 points in their kitty; they will take on Thiruvallur Veerans, who are in the 4th position with 6 points, on 10th September at Chennai. While Kovai Kings put up a great effort to defend a low target of 137 runs against Gillies, Veerans suffered defeat at the hands of Patriots after being unable to defend 141. Both teams have done well to excel with bat and ball to keep an upper hand over their opponents and this contest will test their perseverance to keep the winning momentum going on Saturday.
LYCA Kovai Kings
Speedster Harish Kumar claimed 3-23 to topple the Gillies top-order and along with spinner Ajith Ram’s 2-9 in 3 overs, Kovai Kings successfully defended 137 to win the match by 11 runs. The bowling unit has done well and along with Vignesh, M Mohammad and Sivakumar, they can try to stifle the Veerans from getting the big runs. Earlier, Syed Mohammad and Anirudh contributed with 30+ runs to keep the scoreboard ticking while M Mohammad posted a quick fire 26.
In the match against Super Kings, the top-order built a solid foundation with the openers Suryaprakash and Anirudh setting up a 65-runs opening stand; Tarun Srinivas and Rohith posted 40+ runs each while M Mohammad continued his good all-rounder form to take the scoreboard to 199 runs with his well-made 27. The bowlers then put up a strong show as Mohammad and Vignesh took 2 wickets each to restrict the opposition from reaching the target.
Overall, their batsmen and bowlers are in good form and can definitely triumph under pressure; whether batting first or chasing a target, the Kings surely can prove to be a formidable force here.
VB Thiruvallur Veerans
Hari Nishanth fought a lone battle at the top-order as he posted a well-made 59 against Patriots but the others failed to support him and the Veerans ended up with 141 runs on board batting first. Despite a superb show by speedster Jaganath Srinivas, who took 2-24, and an economical spell by paceman Lakshmi Narayan, they couldn’t turn around things for the team.
In the earlier match against Kanchi Warriors, the batting line-up had done extremely well to score 206 runs batting first thanks to a brilliant captain’s knock by Baba Aparajith, who scored 91 off 54. Chaturved coming in at No.2 supported well with a good 53 from 34 deliveries and they can surely post a strong foundation in the upcoming match too.
Batsmen like Sanjay Yadav and Rangarajan bring depth to the batting line-up while all-rounders like Lakshmi Narayan and Tanwar can help keep the scoreboard ticking. Against Warriors, spinner Samuel took 3-27 while speedster Rohit also provided 3 breakthroughs helping the team win the match by 42 runs. They are in good form with both bat and ball and seem to be the team to look out for here.
While both teams have strong match-winners who will be determined to put their team on top of the proceedings, we feel that Veerans have a good combination of pacemen and spinners who can help demolish the efforts of the opposition and win the match on Saturday
