About the Match
Mangalore is in the 5th place with 3 points after their last game against Shivamogga ended in defeat; they will now try to make a comeback when they meet Bellary Tuskers, who are placed 7th with 2 points, on 24th September at Hubballi. The Tuskers handed out a massive defeat to Rockstars after restricting them to 97 runs and then going on to chase it easily; this victory has surely boosted their morale and they will be determined to continue with their winning momentum. Mangalore, on the other hand, has received a mixed bag after one of their games was washed away by rain; however, they too will be energised to start climbing up the table before it gets too late.
Openers Karun Nair and Gautam posted a superb 69-run stand against Shivamogga; however, the others in the middle-order except for Nidesh, who scored 32 off 18, were dismissed for single digits and they could muster only 143 runs in the end. Bhareth, More and Shashi Shekar took a wicket each but they weren’t sharp enough to stifle the opposition and lost the match by 7 wickets.
In the earlier match against Rockstars, they put up a tremendous show with the bat as Shekhawat scored 106 off 61 to steer the team to 195 runs batting first. Bhavane and Basavraj played useful knocks while the bowlers provided quick breakthroughs and helped win the match by 53 runs. Mitrakanth Yadav took 2 wickets with his spin bowling while medium-pacers More and Bhareth continued with their wicket-taking abilities, claiming 2 scalps each.
While the batting line-up has good players and depth, they can try to be more consistent in getting the runs on board; with a well-balanced bowling squad consisting of spinners and pacers, Mangalore surely can try to emerge victorious on Saturday.
Anil bowled superbly with his spin tactics to register a figure of 3-15 against Rockstars, providing vital assistance in restricting the opponents to a lowly 97; fast-bowler Akhil also impressed with the ball taking 2-15 while Amit Verma and Prasidh Krishna contributed with a wicket each. Openers Kadam and Pawan who have been in good form, posted 40 runs each during the chase and with help from Manjunath down the order, they crossed the target with 52 balls to spare.
However, in the game against Warriors, the batting line-up failed to chase down the 158-run target in 17 overs, falling behind by just 9 runs. Kadam had posted a superb 61 off 40 while Karthik tried to keep the scoreboard ticking with his well-made 30 but it wasn’t enough to hold against the Warriors’ in-form bowling attack.
The batting line-up has many talented players like Kadam, Pawan, Karthik, Manjunath and all-rounders like Amit Verma and Raju; with a focused approach on building steady partnerships, they can surely try to outwit the Mangalore bowlers and help the team continue winning matches.
While both teams will use their resources well to gain two more points here, we feel that United with their experienced lineup has the advantage to overcome the challenge and win on Saturday
