About the Match
Rockstars suffered a humiliating defeat against Mysuru Warriors by a massive 113 runs in their opening clash of the season; they will now take on Mangaluru, which also lost its first game against Mysuru by 7 wickets, on 19th September at Hubballi. The Rockstars faced a huge target of 220 runs after the bowlers gave away too many runs, and the batting line-up crumbled under pressure. Mangaluru, on the other hand, couldn’t defend a modest total of 149 runs and ended up with defeat. Both teams will try to come back with a better performance and garner two points in the upcoming match on Monday.
C Gautam posted a brilliant 64 off 55 to help his team start the innings on a positive note batting first against Mysuru; however, none others in the batting line-up could take the responsibility on their shoulders and fell quickly. Nidesh put up a brave effort by scoring a well-made 54 off 40 and helped his captain take the total to a respectable 148. However, the bowlers put up a lacklustre performance and couldn’t contain the opposition from winning the contest.
Spinners Mitrakanth Yadav and Ankit Kumar took a wicket each and tried to stifle the Mysuru batsmen with their disciplined spin attack; medium pacer Bhareth also contributed with one wicket but others like speedster Gulecha proved to be costly. They have a good mix of pacemen and spinners, who can try to restrict Rockstars here on Monday.
Overall, they would have learnt some bitter lessons from their loss in the last game and will try their best to make a comeback here.
Rajeev fought a lone battle by posting a well-made half-century against Mysuru in the chase for 220 runs; however, his efforts went in vain as the others fell like a pack of cards and couldn’t muster the required runs. Pradeep Bogadi tried to contribute as he scored 20 runs but it wasn’t enough against a determined and skilful Mysuru bowling attack. The batting line-up has players like Bhatkal, Teja, Sharath, Rakshit and others who can focus on building steady partnerships.
The bowlers weren’t impressive enough as they gave away easy runs to Mysuru; although speedster Aiyappa took 2 wickets, he proved to be expensive as well. Spinner Naveen provided a much-needed breakthrough but he too couldn’t contain the opponents run-flow. They have a good variety in the bowling squad with medium pacers like Akshay, Teja and Gowda while Bhatkal can support Naveen in the spin department.
While they may be down on morale after a dismal start, they do have the resources to try and thwart the tactics of Mangaluru players here and put up a winning performance.
Rockstars have had poor runs in the last two editions and although they lost the opening game, they will try to strategize better here to make a turnaround. Mangaluru also lost its first match but with a power-packed batting line-up and in-form bowlers, they look better placed to win on Monday
