The Mumbai team will host Maharashtra for one of the most anticipated games of this Ranji season, as both teams renew their rivalry for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Maharashtra is currently second on the Group B points table with 25 points, while Mumbai is in a close third with 23 points. With Saurashtra already through to the next stage, both, Mumbai and Maharashtra will fight to claim the second spot in this virtual knockout match.
After winning 3 of its first 5 matches, Mumbai had a great chance of booking their place in the quarterfinals as they faced a depleted Delhi squad in the previous match. However, they suffered a shock defeat, it’s first against the team from the capital after a gap of 43 years, and now face the prospect of missing the knockouts.
The equation is pretty clear for Mumbai. They will have to either claim a first-inning lead or win the match outright to overtake their opponents on the table. With Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur on international duties, the team will need some of its other players, especially Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan to step up.
Divyaansh Saxena, who scored a solid 250 against Saurashtra in the CK Nayudu Trophy, is likely to earn a call for this key match, while Musheer Khan, who failed to capitalize on his chances, will be dropped in this game. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had missed the last couple of games due to fitness problems is likely to be fit for this encounter.
Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian will be the key bowlers for Mumbai, along with Tushar Deshpande.

Maharashtra has played some solid cricket this season and is yet to be defeated after playing 6 matches. A thumping 9-wicket win over Hyderabad in their latest outing saw them overtake Mumbai and a first-inning lead in this game will be enough to see them through to the quarterfinals.
Kedar Jadav, who made a return to domestic cricket after a break, is in excellent form this season and has scored a total of 425 runs in just 4 innings, including scores of 283, 71, and 56. He will be supported by Ankit Bawne and Naushad Sheikh, as well as Asim Kazi, who is the leading run-getter for his team this season. The bowling however will remain a concern for Maharashtra, as except for Pradeep Dhade and Akshay Palkar, none of the bowlers have been consistent.
The team will need the likes of Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Satyajeet Bachhav to step up if they want to take on the strong batting line-up of Mumbai. Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be missing this match due to international duties.
Ankit Bawne, Ashay Palkar, Azim Kazi, Naushad Shaikh, Pavan Shah, Pradeep Dadhe, Satyajeet Bachhav, Saurabh Nawale, Siddhesh A Veer, Vicky Ostwal, Kedar Jadhav.

The pitch at the Brabourne Stadium is considered good for batting and remains more or less the same throughout the game. However, the spinners will come into play, especially on the last day, making anything above 150 difficult to chase in the 4th innings. With no forecast of rain, the weather will be perfect to play cricket with temperatures hovering in the mid-20s.
With a spot in the quarterfinals on the line, we can surely expect both teams to go all-out to win this one. There is little separating the two teams at this stage, making this an even contest. While the Maharashtra batsmen have played exceedingly well, the Mumbai bowlers will be raring to have a go at them.
On the other hand, the Mumbai team will be missing some of their key players, including run-machine Prithvi Shaw in this match, making it a bit easier for the Maharashtra bowlers. We feel that neither team enjoy a significant advantage, and the game could end without a clear winner.

Sarfaraz Khan is arguably one of the best batsmen in the domestic circuit as of now. His record in first-class cricket has been incredible, scoring 3505 runs in 54 innings at an average of 79.65. This season, he has scored 556 runs in 9 innings, including 3 centuries and a half-century. Given the fact that Brabourne has an excellent batting pitch, we can surely expect more fireworks from him.
