Tamil Nadu will be looking to score its first win of the season as it faces the perennial favorites Mumbai for a Group B match in the Ranji Trophy.

Mumbai is in terrific form this season but suffered an unexpected defeat in the last match. Nevertheless, they once again start the match as favorites. Shams Mulani was once again exceptional with his left-arm spin and took 10 wickets in the match for 174 runs. Saurashtra finished its first innings with a modest total of 289. In their first innings, Mumbai lost both its openers with just 6 runs on the board, but a solid 92-run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Sarfaraz Khan helped the hosts stabilize the innings.

Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a double century in the previous match against Hyderabad fell for 24, while both SKY and Sarfaraz Khan went on 2 score half-centuries. Mumbai conceded a 59-run lead, which was built upon and Saurashtra set them a stiff target of 280 to win the match. Despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal early, Prithvi Shaw and SKY played positively to set the match nicely. However, once Shaw departed, things quickly unraveled and Mumbai lost by 48 runs.

The team will be looking to forget this loss quickly and start their match against Tamil Nadu with a positive frame of mind.<br />

Tamil Nadu had a great opportunity to win their previous match, played against Delhi as the latter was playing without its first-choice bowling line-up. However, the Delhi batsmen managed to chew through the overs in the second innings before bad light stopped the play earlier than scheduled to rob the visitors of the glimmer of hope that they had.

There have been some brilliant individual performances by Tamil Nadu top-order batsmen this season. Sai Sudharsan has scored 2 centuries in his journey to 420 runs from 6 innings. Baba Aparajith and N Jagadeesan are in good form too, scoring runs at a consistent rate. The middle order, while not much exposed, has failed to impress so far.

The bowling effort to has been pretty average. Sandeep Warrier and Sai Kishore have picked up 16 wickets each, while L Vignesh is close behind with 13.
